US trip - what to bring back?

I don't get why people always post these threads, as if going to America is going off to Mount Olympus to bring back the nectar of the gods. If you don't even know what you want, surely you don't even need anything.

Totally this. It is not a utopia of cheap consumer goods. Most stuff is the same price as it is here - it looks cheap sometimes because nothing is ever quoted as inclusive of tax. Pretty much the only cheap stuff is clothing and even then its hit and miss.

Right, USA is cheap, much cheaper than here, especially when it comes to electronics + clothing, obviously knowing where to look. Nevermind the sales (as in real sales) they've got every now and again to shift out the old stock.

The tax where she is going is about 8%, so still low enough to make it worthwhile.

Granted, if you visit New York then things are indeed expensive, but on the West Coast they are far-far cheaper.

Clothing is something I won't be asking as it's too bulky, more interested in small gadgets ideas.

It used to be significantly cheaper for a lot of things, but there's not much worth buying any more.

This

its really not that cheap, unless you want petrol and hamburgers

Jeans and some duty free booze!

Quite a lot of clothing comes out as cheaper in the US (I will never find Levis 514's at $25 a pair over here which is annoying) plus it's almost rude not to buy some duty free on the plane...

Vanilla coke.
Poptarts.
Twinkies.

If you're staying for a few weeks at a friend or relative's house, get them to order a nice laptop if you need it and pay them the money, it's almost ridiculous how cheap they get them in comparison to over here..
