Usb disks no longer show

My work vista 32 pc, if i insert a usb drive of any kind it all seems ok but the drive never shows in explorer ?
If i go to manage drives the disk is there and "healthy", if i go to a command prompt and do J: it changes to the drive and does a directory fine.

If I double click "my computer" its not there... any ideas ?

So it is definitely appearing fine with the Disk Management, so the PC is recognising it OK. Have you pressed F5 to refresh Explorer? You haven't got another disk with the same drive letter or something causing a clash?

Yes, its fine in disk management, pressing f5 in explorer refreshes the window but the drive still isn't there. Disk management shows it as drive L and i can get to it using the command prompt :s

Buttt.. there was a network mapped drive that was broken on letter L, just deleted that and we're cooking again, how wierd
