Hi all, so my partner bought a used A1 from an arbitrary dealer in May and it had a few problems sorted out under warranty (petrol cap door motor, tracking) but the other day she went to pull out the driveway and it made an almighty twang so she stopped and when she moved forward there was a piece of spring in the driveway.

Spoke to the dealer immediately and they are saying that they need to speak to the "warranty provider as springs are probably wear and tear", which will be this morning as they were closed over the weekend, but they said she should continue using it, which i argued immediately.

I'm pretty sure they are going to try and get out of paying for it but i'm pretty sure this is what the "3 month warranty" is there to protect, and even if not there's the responsibility of the dealer for 6 months, although i guess it could be argued this fault wasn't entirely present when the car was sold!

Where do we stand?

There's basically no chance they will pay for this. Unless you can somehow prove that the spring broke due to it being abnormally rusty or has a manufacturing defect. Which you can't.

Kaeo - Yeah, if i were trying to get them to do it within 6 months of ownership rather than the 3 month "warranty" that's provided i think you are correct.

Slam62 - Hopefully they will honour it, though i would think it'll be a pain to get them to do so!
