I have 4 SATA2 ports, thus four drives. Should it be possible to raid, for example, drives on port 0 and 1, but NOT the drives on 2 and 3?
Using RAID on two out of four ports?

Yeah shouldn't be any problems, normally when buidling the RAID in the controller BIOS you tell it which of the drives connected to use.

Well, I tried... but it seems that my non-raid boot drive wont boot. The BIOS seems to look for a bootable raid drive but wont try another boot device afterwards.
All I want to do is RAID two drives for quick-access storage, but leave my XP boot drive non-raided.

What motherboard is it? On mine you can create the RAID, and then go back into the main BIOS and it appears just like anyother drive in the hard drive boot order list so you can promote/demote it below other drives.
I'll move this to motherboards as it's more an issue with you board rather than the drives.
