Does anyone know the best place to locate information on using your horn in the UK - Particularly the time of night it is illegal etc.. My googling skills have either failed me or I really am not putting in the search criteria correctly..

From the highway code:

92: The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn

* while stationary on the road
* when driving in a built up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

except when another vehicle poses a danger.
Law CUR reg 99

190: Animals. When passing animals, drive slowly. Give them plenty of room and be ready to stop. Do not scare animals by sounding your horn or revving your engine. Look out for animals being led or ridden on the road and take extra care and keep your speed down at left-hand bends and on narrow country roads. If a road is blocked by a herd of animals, stop and switch off your engine until they have left the road. Watch out for animals on unfenced roads.

Now in the Highway code when it says 'you MUST NOT' that is a law i think.

So there are exceptions to this then. (I was interested in it.)

The horn should only be used when another vehicle poses a danger though, and at any other circumstance it is illegal...

So when some burk falls asleep at the traffic lights it's illegal to give them a toot to wake them up?
Nope cause technically it poseses a danger so you can toot him. Rev the engine for road rage effect imo though :D
