Hi

I recently got a 2012 Ybr custom. Each time I've used it every few days it's started first time flawlessly. This time after a week of it sitting, it won't start. The battery appears fine and the starter motor seems to kick over nicely, but no life. The kick starter isn't doing anything either. I've tried to give a bit of gas too and no change. Furthermore, it appears the bike has no choke. Could this be right?

There's a keyhole on the side of the bike, pictures below, could that be choke? Yes I am a complete noobie

Ok thanks all I will check spark plug. Wires etc all seem intact. Lots of fuel sloshing around in the tank. Oil is still nice and clear / translucent.

If it is a spark plug issue would sitting ever encourage that? Or would it just be chance it's been dirtied?

Ok unKle you seem on the money with that thread. I went out while it was cool early this morning and it started up happily. The small whir I hear when I turn the ignition I believe is the fuel pump. I can't recall it doing it as usual yesterday and today it sounded different but nonetheless the bike started easily. That's going to be a pain if i want to go on my first long ride out. I'll be worried about sunlight if it sits a few hours! Will have to guage how common the issue is and how much of a nuisance it is to me before I do anything

Lots of people have suffered this problem on the YBR, and the problem is most always caused by the fuel pump itself. Not a hugely expensive or difficult job to replace.

You'd think they'd change it after a few years of one model....I guess they bulk buy parts ahead of time
