Uuuurm, LOL X1800XT 512 (should i be worried :o ) ?

Hi All,

Just thought id post after a a little advice really, got a Power colour X1800XT 512 (from ocUK) and ive been having a few 'issues'. These are:

Random freezes with an electronic 'buzz' for ~ 1/2 a second (yes i am drunk so my descriptions is plop)

Screen corruption:



As per above, now temps are fine (70ish). It can vary when the lockups will happen (either shortly after game starts or 2 hours etc etc) However the corruption doesnt happen all that often. ive also never had any problems at desktop.

Card is vanilla, absolutely untouched as i couldnt get my head round oc'ing it when i first got it so didnt bother

Now, my quandry. Is this an RMA thing or something else? I really can not have the card away for a week only to be returned after a quick blast of 3d2k5 as it is my only (and the familys) confuser.

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried some different drivers, just to rule that out?

In my experience a checkerboard pattern like that means the core is on it's last legs so yeah, time for an RMA.

What is going on with Powercolor at the moment, first of all there seem to be loads of users having problems with the X850XT's then I have read at least 5 posts about dodgy X800GTO's one which is mine, and now X1800's going bad, all this in the space of 7 days must be more than coincidence.

Remember when you send it back you don't get the postage back that it cost you, even if it is faulty.

Shame really as the card is awesome dont think its a Powercolour thing personally

Its still locking up whilst gaming, again anything from 30 seconds to 3 hours into it

Just concerned that im going to send it back only to get the same one back when it doesnt 'perform'

Anymore opinions on this? (Gibbo, dont suppose you have an idea on whats causing it?)

If the card is faulty when you get your RMA number make sure you make it clear the problems are in actual games and that benchmarking programmes do not show up the faults, its always handy to put a note in with the RMA explaining the fault too.
