V. Noob question.

I want to connect my Sky modem (ADSL) to a "Linksys WRT54GL 54Mbps Open Source Wireless" which I just want to use as a hub (that the right word?) between two computers upstairs. Do I neet the Network Crossover cables or Network Patch cables?

Basically, my main phone socket is other side of *** house to where I plan to have my two computers. I have to plug the Sky modem in there. I then plan to run a long cable from the modem, outside up the wall, and into the room with two computers in - plugging it into the Linksys. Then plug the two computers into the Linksys so both connect to the net.

I'm a mess at networking so a couple questions:
1. Is that the most efficient way to connect them up to make best use of the speeds?

2. Is is Crossover or Patch cable I need?

3. Will the cable be ok run outside for a good 10m? (degrade performance at all?)

4. Will the Linksys work as a hub with the Sky ADSL modem?

Thanks for any help.

Either cable will work fine, but straight through's the "proper" option. Connecting the two routers by their switch ports (don't use the WAN port on the WRT54GL) will work fine so long as you disable DHCP on one of them.

Ok so I'll just get a long patch cable and connect them to the switch ports and disable the DHCP on the Linksys.

Any ideas if the outside cable will cause any degrigation of the quality?

Also, when you say straight through you mean the router connected directly to one of the comps?
