Just playing this through again for the fourth time... Damn this is a good game!

But I was wondering... I've just finished the Giovanni mansion quest (again) and when you go back to see Lacroix there is a big heap of rubble outside his building that wasnt there before. Anyone know why? I can't work out exactly what it has to do with the story.

Correct.

IMO One of the best games ever made. I wish Troika included a multiplayer function :(

Oh yeah, I just didn't put the two things together because there arent really any signs of damage on the inside of the Lacroix building (just a few blood stains).

But yeah it's definately my favourite PC game ever. I've played through as a Toreador, a Malkavian (twice) and now I'm playing as a Tremere.

I need to give this game another try now it's been patched. Which is the best patch to use, the latest unofficial one?
I just use the official 1.2 patch and it is fine for me. The only bad thing that has happened is one single crash to desktop. But otherwise no probs.

A great game, with really sharp / witty writing.
Especially if you play as a Malkavian! They have the best dialogue options by far.

I love the bit where Gary asks you if you've ever gone up against the Kuei-Jin (which by that point you havn't) and one of the dialogue options is "Yeah hundreds... I'm a Kuei-Jin death machine". :D

I prefer playing as a malkavian, but I have completed it as everything except a ventrue.
I'm just started this again (5th time!) and I'm playing as Ventrue. I have to say this is my best vampire yet and love their magic - "fortitude" gives you up to +5 on all of you're soak feats which is damn useful.
But then again, you can't really beat the Malkavians "obfuscate" at level 3+ which allows you to walk around completely invisible!

Ergh! I was enjoying this game again until today, I keep getting a crash to desktop when talking to Jeanette in The Asylum nightclub after going to the beach house. I'm using the v1.2 patch (official one as far as I know), any ideas anyone? Have crash logs if it would help at all.

Edit: I tried installing the unofficial v2.3 patch, didn't help. Still crashing when I talk to Jeanette, so I am going to reinstall entirely.

Try playing in lower graphics settings?
Other than that I've no idea, as I said above I just use the 1.2 patch and havn't had a single crash this time around (and I'm right up to chinatown again now).

Awesome game. I can't think of any game with a better script, storyline or voice acting. Come to think of it I can't remember enjoying another game more. The npcs in just about every other game are lifeless by comparison. Only the characters in Half Life 2 and Fahrenheit come close.

I've started to play through for the third time, this time with unofficial patch 2.4 (the latest one to date but I've heard rumours of a 2.5).

The later unofficial patches are great for Malkavian characters, as a fair bit of content taken out late in development has been restored, including the Malkavian whispers. Those of you that have played as a Malk before might have noticed a voice in your head when you talked to a character that turns up in the Santa-Monica diner and in a junkyard. As far as I know that used to be the only instance in the game but now there are a further 20 or so. I've heard 3 or 4 and I'm not yet out of Santa Monica. They've got rid of the respawning enemies in later levels too. Playing 2.4 feels like something of a director's cut.

I love playing as a Malk but wouldn't recommend it for a first time player. They come out with some very 'insightful' comments in dialogue that will mean a lot more if you've played the game through as a more conventional character.
Yeah I noticed the whisper for that character in the diner, thought is was cool and a shame it wasn't used more. Really must get that patch as the Malkavians are easily the best.

Currently playing as a Ventrue and really sucking up to the Camarilla, as allying with the cam is one of the only endings I havnt seen yet.

I didn't know the game had different endings. How do you get the different endings then?
Towards the end of the game you will be talking to a mysterious cab driver. The ending you get depends on what you say to him. For instance if you pick the dialogue options which support the camarilla you will have the ending where you ally with them.

Also some dialogue options may not be available at that point, depending on choices you have made throughout the game. So if you spend the game bad-mouthing the camarilla, you may not have the option of joining them at the end.

Yeah would really like to know how many alternate endings there are as I was only aware of the one...

***SPOILERS***

The possible endings are...

1. Join the Camarilla
2. Join the Anarchs
3. Join Prince Lacroix (different ending than joing the cam)
4. Join the Kuei-Jin
5. Ally with nobody

And of course some endings will again be slightly different depending on wether or not you "open the box"! :D
