ive been offerd a vauxhall omega,
2001 Xreg, FSH from vauxhall,
uncluding new head G, water pump,
C belt etc, the list of bills recipts from vauxhall is great,
its a GLS in silver. cost £1000

only snag its done STARSHIP miles

walk away or snap it up?

Run as fast as you can in the opposite direction.
There are far better cars available for a grand.

I was thinking 'hmmm not bad' at first.

That was until i saw the mileage.

To be honest with the mileage, it might just turn into a money pit.

its only up the road, should go and offer 500 quid and do him a favour ?

or is that cheeky?

I doubt he would take it, and he will probably get someone to pay a grand who won't see past the 'X' plate. You could offer £500 but be prepared for an aggressive response :)

I mean the car could be fine, but the chances of things going wrong are high and just because it's a Vauxhall doesn't mean it'll be cheap to get fixed.

Such as what? Provided it's in decent nick and isn't a shed I can't think of much better than a mere 6 year old example of one of the best cars Vauxhall ever made.

Because nobody in their right mind buys a car with nearly a quarter of a million miles on it? This is assuming it has the original engine and gearbox.

I am far from being a Vauxhall fan but from driving the company Omegas I have always had a soft spot for them. HOWEVER, all of ours have started encountering major problems at over 100k. 1 Has had a completely new engine and gearbox, 1 had has most of the electrics replaced. These 2 in particular have been driving pretty gently by older employees.

Personally I wouldn't touch one on that Mileage, or pay half that and treat it as a disposable car tbh.

/edit. I should say that the one that had the replacement engine and gearbox made it to 250k miles before it was sold on for £200 iirc.

it does have a lot of recipts, which ever piece of work carried out on it

with a £1000 bill for a top end rebuild

I have had 2 cars with rebuilt/reconditioned engines put in them (Not by choice!) and maybe I am being fussy but i never found them to feel the same and never felt like I could drive them hard. Also, I blew one of them up again and the owner of the other one after me blew that one up too...

I would never, ever get an engine rebuilt etc unless I had no other choice, but that's just me.

Yes it is better to get something older but in better shape and with lower mileage. Unless you just want to impress other people anyway.

High milers can offer good value for money provided they have been taken care of, but you have to draw the line somewhere. There is no way that car is worth a grand, I wouldn't pay a penny over £500 for it.

1996-1198 omega with mot and around 120k should be around the £600 mark. I wouldn't pay any more than £300 for 250k even though it is newer. The engine might be reconed. But every moving part at that mileage will have a lot of wear.

Look at auto trader. there loads of decent omegas between 500-1k.

This one for example
