Vauxhalls are great

Mines has ran for 3 years flawless. No I lie the multi disc changer packed in. Has cost me servicing, MOT, brakes and tyres so far. Needs an exhaust soonish too.

Dad has two Vauxhall Mantas.

They were pretty damned decent!

He subsequently had a Vextra as a company car and there wasn't a single fault in 3 years of use.

Does make you wonder if its luck of the draw

I drive a Vauxhall and have no problem saying as a rule they're poop, but then again I'd like to think mine is an exception to the rule :p

nothing wrong with vauxhalls tbh, no worse than any other manufacturer.

obv the meriva that went on fire is down to driver error as can clearly be seen, imagine expecting it not to burst into flames when parked on your drive way ffs

and op, thats not faults thats just vauxhalls way of making sure their dealers dont get lonely

that said my vectra 150k miles as of now and still going fine (ish)

Yay Vauxhalls are great aren't they :(

Wife's Zafira now can't open the back doors because the wiring loom to the rear doors is too short and rubs every time you open the door causing the wires to eventually break, great for a 55 reg car apparently lucky didn't cause a fire.

Great for the wife when she can't get the kids out of the car

I did like the thing but the list gets ever bigger

  • Stupid aero handbrake fell apart
  • Top cover of engine come loose
  • Boot doesn't open in frost
  • A/C is not working
  • Steering wheel controls don't work
  • I have a box of plastic trim items that now don't like to be one with the car
  • Drivers window only opens 3/4 freely then just jams up
  • Now the rear doors won't open

Rant over, that's my Saturday sorted out soldering new wires :(

I ran a 55 plate zafira for 4 years. Sorry.

Anyway, it was the first and last vauxhall I will ever own.

The problems started after about a year.

  • Dual Mass Flywheel went
  • ERG Valve went
  • Dashboard trim rattled
  • Alternator went
  • battery died
  • cd player/radio stopped playing cd's
  • passenger window would "clunk" on it's way up and down
  • engine cover kept popping off
  • steering wheel controls only worked if you thumped them hard
  • reverse gear was tempremental

Also it was the first car in 20 years I have had broken into.

The only decent vauxhall made was the Carlton and Omega, they were so nice.

Pretty much.

Carlton > Omega > Commodore > Monaro; did a good job with the Carlton and decided to just slowly make them bigger over the years.

Shame about the rest of the range over the years :p

Owning a 55 plate Zafira that also had the rear door wiriing loom break, I certainly agree that is the worst design ever!

About the rest of it, and MrLOLz list, and I'm sure it's all true, but I would comment that 90%+ of that is just new main stream cars in general, DMF's/EGR's etc are a PITA on all mainstream brands..

On the car 'falling' to bits though, I do wonder, I've got 2 kids, I've done 60K+ in the car, and not a single item of trim has remotely looked as if it's loose or about to break, and no rattles.. My neighbour's has a Citreon Picasso that he jokes about as he has a cardboard box in the garage that he keeps bits that 'fall off', but even then I can't imagine what his kids do to break that much stuff off..

The issues I've had are

1. DMF Failure
2. EGR Failure
3. Cracked AC pipe (Manufacturing fault)

But looking at all the Mondeo's/CMax's/SMaxs/Pug 407's that we have in work, all have had similar issues, DMF's/Diesel Injectors/Gearbox faults/Trim issues/Electrical issues, not forgetting the DPF issues..

However, I would say that most issues seem to be from 2004-2009 manufactured cars, it does seem that with all the DMF's/Injectors/DPF's seem to be much better designed, and the current crop of new cars seem markedly better for these types of issues..

i've experienced vauxhall build quality first hand

Just need to wait for the Vauxhall Fans to turn up and say theres nothing wrong with them and they're no worse than any other manufacturer etc..
Just spotted that.. :) All I will say is, you can't hide common issues with the modern interwebz, and I'm sure you don't need me to go and bring up a huge list of all these common complaints with all the manufacturers? Just knowing all the issues guys in work have with their company cars from all the various brands tells me anecdotally that new cars are all a PITA, well apart from I have to say the Audi/BMW's which actually do tend to have less niggly things go wrong, just the odd more expensive items.. ;) And knowing a few Taxi drivers, they seem to also have a pretty even list of manufacturers that have over the last 5 years seem to suffer reliability wise.

This is very true. My preferred marque is hardly reliable.

But what makes this more unacceptable with Vauxhall is given they don't do anything else particularly well, the only reason to purchase most of the range is to provide cheap and cheerful transport. The fact they can't even do that makes them fundamentally pointless.

I mean you don't care if your Elise breaks because when it works, it's sensational.

But when a tediously dull, cheap family car goes wrong it begins to become a pointless car.

Works Vectra just hit 155k, even though its driven like someone stolen it everyday its still going well, only major work is a clutch at 100k ish. Its been a good car ... maybe it is just luck of the draw
