vectra vxr

I don't really get how a car can be too powerful, FWD or otherwise. If your wheelspinning try just not mashing the pedal right on the floor in low gears?

Leon's aren't bad for space,. I've had 4 in confortably on long journeys and everyone was pleasantly surprised at how nice the interior was, and the legroom in the back. It isn't as big as the Mondeo...but then, I have no idea why he has totally ruled out the ST220. He like's Mondeo's, he likes space, he wants power...

I wouldn't go near the VXR with a bargepole. I would reccomend him having a gander at the Leon's or maybe a Skoda Octavia VRS?

Leon's might be brilliant for space but they are still an entire car class size down. A Mondeo/Vectra has a lot more space compared with a Leon.

He has rulled out an ST220 as he already has a Mondeo, wants a change and probably doesn't feel the cost to change is worth it to drive exactly the same car just with more power.

burns - It's not just FWD and RWD, the way a chasis/engine is setup determins how well the car can put it's power down.

Say you have a car where peak torque and power is at 1200rpm (no idea if there is one) then the car will literally either not be moving or wheel spinning everywhere.

Find something like a Honda Vtec engine where the peak torque and power is high up the rev range and gets there in a linier way and you'll find it easier to launch as the power comes in more progressively.

Turbocharged FWD suffer the worse simply because you have no power, no power, no power, WHOAOMGZ ALL TEH POWER.

I drive a FWD turbocharged car with more power than the chasis can really handle so I know how it feels, but I've changed my driving style now so I tend not to notice it.

It's simply the fact that in order to match an FWD car or RWD car with similar power, you have to "mash" your pedal which results in nothing less than lots of smoke or lots of flashing lights. Ease of the pedal, sure, but don't expect the other, correct drive cars to still be around waiting for you.

I've got a 265BHP FWD hatch, and a 200BHP RWD Saloon.

One is a pain in the arse to drive quickly, one isn't.

Care to guess which is which?

Though to be honest a decent chassis doesn't fall apart when the fuse gets pulled. It's indicative of a crap chassis made acceptable by a load of electronics.

You mean like Evos? :D

Two things:

1) Running costs
2) Not wanting to look like a complete dill when arriving at work

1) A twin scroll turbo V6 will not be a cost effective alternative if your looking to save on running costs.
2) You may have a point with the subaru but not the Evo as anything after the Evo 6 look reasonably understated imo, after all we are talking about vectra's here, one of the most lol'ed at cars in recent times :p
