Well, we found a car. After viewing loads of absolute dogs (why lie when I ask on the phone is there is anything wrong with the car?) of Preludes, MR2s, Celicas etc we found this:

1999 Ford Cougar 2.5 v6
69,000 miles
2 owners
X-Pack with full leather
12 months ticket
4 months tax

£2600

It's pretty much spotless apart from the air-con not working. The pump insnt engaging so it looks like it just needs a re-gas. Even if the pump is shot, it's only a couple of hundered quid to replace it.

Looks very nice mate - my neighbour has a Cougar V6 and I have a Mondeo V6, both great cars IMO.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is the need to check if the IMRC is working (the thing that opens up the secondaries round about 3500rpm) - get in to 2nd gear and reach approx. 30mph, and boot it. If you can feel a surge of power, then you're all good, but if not, I'd have a look at it. Mine's shot at the moment, but I had fixed it temporarily by whipping the cover of and having a fiddle round with the motor...

Yeah, I checked that. Works just fine.

One we drove was shot and made a terrible noise as the secondaries tried to open.

Yeah, it's a bad design IMO. Most tend to suffer electronic failure, but I've come across some that just have sticky secondaries. Glad that this one's all good though :)

Very nice m8 :)

Change them side repeaters to nice clear ones

And a little tip on the imrc for anyone,,, take the plastic cover off and drill some hole's in it, this lets the air flow over the imrc box and stop's it cooking.

Also worth having a look on www.ukcougarforum.com

That's a fantastic buy for £2600. Bodywork looks very straight.

So much better than that nasty old Probe :p.

Other than the "my first stereo" it actually looks pretty nice for such a small outlay. Cant knock it at all.

Is its pretty much a mondeo st200 - same engine / handling?

Close, it's pretty much a 2 door ST24.

Usually with a ridiculously overinflated price - so £2600 for that is pretty damn good!

To be honest, there are loads of them around at that price. Some are dogs, others are tidy.

I think the used values reflect that most people have realised it's just a Mondeo 2.5 Ghia X with a different body-shell.

They aren't that quick but they handle OK for the size I guess.

Amazing buy, congratulations! :) Get some Cougar Stickers to hide that Fraud logo, and the obligatory clear/crystal side repeaters :p

cougarforum.com, *the* place to be

Enjoy her! Shes a beauty :)

Looks nice

I like Cougars. Yes, they are a Mondeo in a party frock, but I think they are good looking cars.
