Nelly your results are they from SATA11 3GBs or SATA111 6GBs as your board has SATA 111?

I will buy a new Motherboard soon but I will need a new cpu as well as it is a x58.

Intel core i7 930 2.8G s1366 ..................... Overclocked to 4.00Hz
ASUS Rampage 11 extreme X58
6GB 3x2 CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 DHX
1536MB EVGA GTX480 PCI-E...................... Overclocked 800 core 2000 memory
750 CM Extreme GX 80+ PSU
T/R Ultra - 120 extreme 1366
256Gb Samsung 830 series SSD
150G WD WD1500HLFS Veloctrap
2x500GB Hard Drives

For the moment I have ordered a ASUS U3S6, 2x USB 3.0/2x SATA 6Gb/s, PCIe x4

Hmm what make you guys of this:

crystaldisk_corsairforce3129gb_30gbfree.jpg

120GB Force 3, connected to the 6GB/s port on my MSI P67A-G45 B3. Latest RST driver and latest chipset inf files. i5 2500K @ 4.3. There are 2 other HDD drives connected but on the 3GB/s ports.

The drive is my OS drive with 30GB free currently. Write Caching is enabled. Windows index for the drive is 7.7.

I have the Samsung 256GB SSD on the way from OcUK so will be interesting to see how much more different it is to the Force 3.

Ok an update from my early post about how I was buying the

ASUS U3S6, 2x USB 3.0/2x SATA 6Gb/s, PCIe x4

A455-0004-main-ld-1.jpg

So now I should be SATA 111 6Gbs

It is installed on the last Pci e x16 slot and the results again are very poor.

1st picture [TEST1] Is from the ASUS U3S6, 2x USB 3.0/2x SATA 6Gb/s, PCIe x4

The 2nd [TEST 2] is from the motherboard SATA11. 3Gb/s

I have looked everywhere for the latest drivers thinking it might be this that is giving me such poor results.
I have looked around the internet and posts are saying go to station-drivers.com , I have no idea what driver I need.

Any advice please.

The Asus US36 uses a Marvell 9123 (88SE9123) controller chip for SATA 3.

As you've found out it isn't a particularly good one.

You can try the drivers at the bottom of this page but I don't guarantee they'll work or improve anything:

http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm

There's even updated firmware but I've no idea if you can update the firmware on the card or how you'd go about doing it.

Can I ask which driver do I download from that page, it is not letting me right click to post here to see if it the correct one.

If that does not work I cannot afford to buy another upto date Motherboard and CPU and Ram at the moment so I will have to buy another x58 motherboard that supports 6Gb/s

Only these 3 are left really now :(

Asus P6X58D-E
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 Express 1366 Motherboard
Asus Sabertooth TUF X58 Motherboard, USB 3.0, SATA III

not sure which is the best motherboard.

Can I ask what is RST as I have been looking around the internet and found another post about poor Reads and writes on Samsung 830 series and this person found this website to update.

This is his post
http://www.overclock.net/t/1253875/samsung-830-256gb-super-slow-write-speeds-across-the-board/10

When I select RST do I select chipset?

I wouldn't bother. That's probably the best speeds you'll get out of the Marvell controlled Asus card. For full SATA III speeds it's best to use a native Intel one, so wait until you upgrade the system.

Thanks Wise guy,

[native Intel one] is this the new motherboards. If so I [ask my darling wife]
will upgrade , for £600 would I beable to get a Motherboard/ CPU/ RAM bundle
from Overclockers that would be faster than the spec I have now.

Can I ask for some help here please about choosing the best bundle for gaming, BF3.

I would like to still use my 750 CM Extreme GX 80+ PSU
also I have a new graphics card Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Ultra Durable GV-N670OC-2GD.

I assume one of the 1.2.0.1019 WHQL drivers.

Don't bother.

The motherboards you've listed use a similar controller to the Asus U3S6

Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

It's the link I provided in post #2.

I honestly wouldn't bother if the only reason you're upgrading is the SATA 3 issue.

In day to day usage you'd struggle to notice the difference.

Thanks Surveyor :)

To be honest Underboss that's the only thing I do on my desktop it was bought for gaming at the time and that is all I do now BF3.

I would like to upgrade now as my system is old and if possible would like some advice on what combo's.

Your system may be "old" but it's by no means past it.

The S1366 CPUs are still pretty potent especially if overclocked.

BF3 isn't CPU bound: BF3 CPU Performance scaling

Maybe you need a new graphics card depending on what you have now.

Upgrading anything else isn't likely to improve BF3 performance.

If you are looking for a CPU/motherboard/RAM upgrade then you'd be best starting a thread in General Hardware asking for recommendations and stating exactly what you use your PC for.

You may also need a new CPU cooler depending on what you have now.

I have just ordered the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Ultra Durable GV-N670OC-2GD so maybe I will see a difference with this in BF3.

Yes tried different drivers still very poor.
I now have a new system which I am very pleased with ,

CPU Intel Core i7 3770K, Ivy Bridge, 3.5GHz, Quad Core + Hyperthreading, 8MB Cache

CPU Coolers Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro2 BK017 Performance CPU Cooler

MSI Z77A-GD55, Gen3, Intel Z77 Chipset

Memory - DDR3! 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LP, DDR3, 1600Mhz

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Ultra Durable GV-N670OC-2GD
