VGA days are numbered

There's a fair amount of legacy stuff that could be retired for instance ps2 connectors, ide, floppy drives and serial ports to name a few.

Yep. I've seen a few new PCs around that just have USB now without PS2 /serial ports. It will be much easier when everything uses display port, USB and SATA :)

I am amazed they are still around now, I mean DVI has been around affordably for at least 7 years or so?

Power supplies always seem to come with floppy connectors though, which seems pointless

most motherboards have them as well still

i bet it'll only be used by a handful of people, those that dont really move with technology.

i have a mate who still uses a video recorder, and doesn't have a dvd player or anything

when he bought a large plasma recently, his only requirement was that it should work with his video player

They tried doing that a few years back (2003 or so I guess?), Abit and some other bunch did some 'legacy free' motherboards.

What I find a bit strange is that parallel ports got dropped a while back yet serial ports remain? I don't know anyone that has used a serial port in years.

IDE is a bit more tricky because plenty of people still use IDE hard drives (myself included). I wouldn't buy a motherboard without an IDE port unless there was a compelling argument to (a lot cheaper / better features etc).

Anyway going back to the matter in hand, personally I really don't see what is wrong with VGA. Image quality looks fine to me and as mentioned it is superior to DVI when it comes to bandwidth. One of the reasons we won't see 120hz panels larger than 1080p is that dual link DVI is pretty much maxed out at that level.
