Hey, I've been asked by my boss to 'souce' a camera and editing program that is capable of doing the following. And i could really use some help deciding on the best bit of kit.

  • A video camera that has great in-build sound recording
  • That is easy to use, possibly a touch screen
  • And produces dvd quality video at the touch of a button (not hd)
  • Will be film on building sites 80% of the time, so a camera that is built well, but will be on a tripod the majority of the time (warranty?)
  • Would be great if the mic could take out some abient sound (will be recording people speaking whilst on site)
  • An editing program that can convert to dvd and play that dvd on a dvd player without problems
  • And editing program that can merge small 1-5min videos into one long video
  • Possibility of sub-titles and music
  • And most importantly the ability to edit a title page that shows the individual 1-5min videos as chapters, and and a 'play all' kinda feature that will have business logo intro then the videos (like a moive dvd)
  • Including an end page that will include business info etc.

Quite a daunting list at the moment, i have been looking at panasonic video cameras and some cheaper alternatives and to be honest they all look good fo dvd video recording but i cant be 100% sure about the sound recording. The editing program is the hardest thing to find, after looking at soo many editing programs i cant seem to get one that will be able to do everything needed.

Budget at the moment is £700 +/- for the camera and software. Any help would be really really usefull, as im continuing to look but not found the right kit yet. Thanks :)

My video knowledge is limited, but as far as I am aware to get the sound quality you need you are going to have to invest in external mics as this will help cut out ambient sound and concentrate on people's voices.

My knowledge is more DSLR video recording so can't suggest any, however, your best bet would be to look for a dedicated video forum. Might be worth trying AVforums as see if they can help :)
