Video file icons in vista 64bit

Hi,
Anyone know if you can change the icons for video files to show what the video is instead on the standard avi/wmv icon?
windows Xp used to show an image of the movie but i can't seem to do it in vista
anyone know how?

Go to Control Panel, then click on Classic View on the Left. Then choose Folder Options->View, and make sure "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is disabled under Advanced settings.

It also depends on the codecs used. Windows can't read all of them.

An easy way to check is to see if the files will play in WMP. If they do, Windows has the relevant codecs. If they don't you need to download a DirectShow codec for that format.

done this but it seems to have done nothing, they're still the same.

all of the files i have open in media player. for some reason it's the only player that i actually like.

Also, have you got Nero installed by any chance ?

install vista x64 components (same author)

The reason you can't see the thumbnail previews is due to not having the necessary codec filters. If you have a regular 32-bit codec installed, then you will be able to watch the video file (as when selected the relevant 32-bit app will open to play it), however Windows Explorer itself is a 64-bit application and needs the relevant 64-bit codec filters to display the thumbnails. For that reason, what bledd suggested will fix it.
