video game violence

People need a scape goat for what goes on in the world, as it makes them feel safer to have reason other than "we're a species of ********", video games are an easy target.

I've been playing video games probably since before I was 8, so that's 20 years plus, and although graphics weren't brilliant back then, games still follwed the same model, usually jumping from platform to platform killing stuff. Needless to say, after so many years of playing games, I'm not a psycho.

It's the same with everything it's just manic killers are often unsocail people who play video games so its a perfect target.

The person themselves are what make people killers and such games have 0 effect on me in terms of violence but I have known people who it at least leaves an impression of "whoa that was cool I would love to use a m16 irl" and such. Most of the murders do have something up with their minds even before games come into play so I believe games/movies/magzines/websites might enhance their issues.

Totally agree that the video games too violence link has been completely over played right back to the Doom days!

One thing that really does get my goat though is the number of people who think that is is ok and normal to let primary school children play call of duty etc. they wouldn't let them watch saving private ryan so why is it ok for them to perform a virtual re-enactment? It also really doesn't help the perfectly sensible argument that adults should be allowed to enjoy these types of games!

I'd be interested in your views on the death sentence. Because the murder rate is actually higher or, at least, not lower in American States where they have the death penalty. The stats never lie = Having the death sentence increases the murder rate !!!!
i was joking... but the stats you talk of are a myth

Mentally ill nutcases will always make excuses and 'take inspiration' from anything they can, be it games, films, etc.

Games do not cause someone to be violent, they must already be insane and the things they do would happen regardless of video games.

Its mostly just the idiotic high horse brigades who can't seem to grasp that simple fact that call on games to be banned for various reasons. Idiots.

So I bought my 12 year old son who I never spend time with a gratuitously violent, sexual and criminally oriented video game with a massive logo saying 18 OR OVER on it, a rating system specifically designed to protect kids from unsuitable content but I bought it for him anyway, and he took one of the many easy-to-access loaded guns displayed across my house and went and killed our neighbour who I'm always saying I could kill for various reasons.

I BLAME VIDEO GAMES MANUFACTURERS

I went through bouts of schizophrenic delusions after I played Tetris and any through the wall type games...

Not read the thread, but the title and first post content is enough, video game violence is a load of tosh, i've been playing violent games since i was about 8, and ive not once murdered or assaulted anyone, in fact im one of the least violent people on this damn planet.

Yes, some people play a game and go mad and then kill someone, but its not the games fault, its them, they are the oens screwed up. The day 'violent' games get band is the day the video games industry is destroyed
