(Video) The i5 is Dead...Long Live the i5?

Just saying you can have as many cores as you like but you need clockspeed also. Hence why threadripper is getting beat by a 6 core.
Dude what’s a matter with you take intel tinted glasses off. No one is comparing threadripper with your beloved 8700k either. They are different chips with different purposes, threadripper is designed for those application that will take advantage of cores as well as clock speed, in which case it’s clearly not a fair fight.

This discussion is about quad cores becoming obsolete now that games and more are starting to take advantage of more cores, we get that ipc and clockspeed are still important.

Back at you :)
I've been saying quads are dead for ages I guess some people just need a video.
His video is nonsense though. This talk of his prophecy lol.
By the time ryzen becomes faster than the 7600k in 20% of games they will both be obsolete.

His videos are more often than not him talking about, or regurgitating other media outlets. It's an art-form in itself.

AMD are already offering 16c 32t chips in a desktop platform. They even have 8c 16t laptops.
I wouldn't call Threadripper mainstream, not at that pricing. When I talk about 12-16c being mainstream I mean a 12c costing £160 and a 16c being £300, so at least another 5 years imo.

Problem with games is - it is really hard, even on consoles, to move away from where the ultimate key to performance is how fast 1-2 main threads can run. Using extra threads for additional features like more complex AI, etc. can render CPUs with lesser core counts obsolete no matter how fast they can run a single core but ultimately when it comes down to side by side comparisons it is probably always going to come down to how fast you can make certain threads tick over (aslong as you have enough cores for the rest i.e. extra cores over what you need won't make up for lack of ability to run certain threads very fast).

On more recent games quad core has done OK if you are limiting to 60fps/60Hz but in some cases you can notice a difference in smoothness when pushing high framerates.

The game engines might be able to spread a workload but testing a CPU or judging its performance across cores is topical as many other systems come into play.

So don't test across a CPU across cores then and do single core, oh wait.......

Why are you making it a Intel vs Amd thread? So basically this video is agreeing with what you are know so what’s the problem and why are you being so defensive.

Not at all, I just think Jim is an idiot :)
He was in fact the one that bought the 7600k up in the video - infact its his video that is intel vs AMD. I'm just discussing it.

Then don’t watch his videos it’s really that simple. You come into a thread about one of his videos talking about something you already agree with. It’s your choice to comment or not and it’s your opinion that’s it’s a amd vs intel video. Stop acting like a fanboy.

I agree that quads have had their day.
I don't agree that ryzen will be beating the 7600k in 20% of games anytime soon.
I also don't agree that nvidia are over either. Going by his other clickbait video.

The Beginning of the End for Nvidia in PC

This guy is a joke.
The only fanboy in this thread is the video author.

Who cares. I like his stuff personally but it doesn’t run my life or get my panties in a twist.

More biased garbage from AdoredTV, makes video specifically about the i5, ends up fluffing up AMD for most of it, as expected :D

Also he should have shown more than AC:O as an "example" for recent games, because the 4C/4T i5 7600K still does better than Ryzens in the following recently launched games: Destiny 2, NFS: Payback, CoD WWII, Wolfenstein II. But I guess that's fake news and the only one that matters is AC:O, which is broiled in controversy over their several layers of DRM?
And isn't Wolfenstein II touted as an example of optimization by some group because the Vegas do really well in that game? Guess it's badly optimized now since the 4C/4T i5 7600K is on par with the 8C/16T R7 1800X there ;)

Yeah the only ones that matter are the ones that fit the narrative:)

The boards are pricey but the chips are great prices. Fact is 8 core are mainstream right now.
