Video to PC??

Ive borrowed a Video camera off a mate and i want to know how i can get the video off the camera onto the pc i have the firewire cable and i am using the firewire port in my soundcard. I have tried using Sonic Foundry Vegas 4.0 with nojoy as i dont know what im doing.......

The Camcorder is Canon MV830i

Windows Movie Maker is easy to use. Won't create fancy effects but it does the job.
