Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

With my new found bga reballing skills im also now not scared of just whipping off a bga to take a look at what the pads look like whereas before I would need a replacement chip before even thinking about popping a bga off.

Same with Most of stuff I do lately, it’s just a cap here and fuse there , nothing no where near interesting enough to fill in here , hopefully the GG is different

I bought a lynx game! I really want to see if the lynx works or what it needs to work! Bought Klax but may have to also buy double dragon.

Board is insanely clean , will get picks up in morning , been looking at screen options . The retro six one looks great with the quick install strips. First thing tho is to recap the soundboard and pray for audio

If you got a clean one you are probably all good grab a cap kit, recap it and see what happens. The retrosix screen is great but pretty expensive and for some screens you need the 35v ref rail to be running nicely.

Here's what I did tonight, one vita charge port completely jumpered! Was fiddly because that port is tiny!!

Going to give it a test then mask up the whole area if anyone wants to change the port again then good luck I guess.

Deffo worth having a look at some of the Northridge Fix videos, he does a lot of these ****ed port repairs very nicely. Several are titled "Hiroshima", check them first :D

Awesome work mate , pin fixes look great. It amazes me how some people are allowed near a console to fix it. To cause so much damage is madness.

Have found some small leaks on a few caps, unless its old glue, all looks the same! . Thinking i have all the caps here, but may order a ceramic set. That way it will never have to be done again :)

Does it smell of fish when working on it.. if it does then you know!!

The Vita needs a battery I think, it flashed for an hour or so before just refusing to boot or flash now. When I plug it in the orange light comes on then goes straight off - I am told this is a sign the battery is totally shot so new one is on order.

Battery should be quite cheap these days , gotta say this GG board is super clean. No corrosion at all

haha you do same as me heat it up and sniff lol
Seems like old glue , going to change all anyway.

That is clean, it's a late gen1 the early gen 1's had a red coating inside the case rather than silver. Really you should be good with just a re-cap. Does it red light boot and stay on? If so recap it and you should be pretty good.

Vita battery was about 7 quid and we have waited a month for a port so can wait a few more days on a battery - plus there is an all new chassis for it on the way anyway so it won't be finished until that comes anyway. On top of that the board still needs to come out so we can apply mask and clean up.

matter cleaning up a few spots on board and reflowing the power IC I have a picture, very dim tho, going to do a full recap , not looked into sound yet. Going to get the ceramic caps as they are cheap enough from retrosix. After that new case and screen, battery mod, and I think it may be a keeper being this clean

If you have a picture then you are golden!! sound will come when you recap the sound board. Picture means the board is good!

Let there be Vita life!!

Opened it up again unplugged the battery and forced some charge into it with the bench supply... plugged it back into the console and eventually the console picked it up and let me boot!! Og battery now appears to be charging and the device is turning on.. I do only have one game called gravity rush so might give that a go and see what it is all about... now awaiting stuff to make it look like bran new.

Looks like my many jumpers on the charge port hit the spot perfectly... I'll take the board out this evening UV mask it and share some photos of the finished product... mashed charge port 0 Vince 1

I guess now I finish the GG and start the Lynx... currently in my queue

7x Switch lites
1x Lynx
1x GG
1x powera switch pad
1x xbox 360
1x Atari 520stfm
1x Nvidia 1070Ti (OCUK Members card) - Not got members permission to include said card in thread yet. Id also like to point out I'm not in here making profit from you guys nor is that my intention, @NutritioN will attest to this. I am not a business just a dude who is enjoying repairing stuff and is happy to take on the odd thing I don't have to go out and buy - I will look at members stuff if you ask nicely but if I decided to accept its up to you if you would like to give me a few beer tokens but is 100% not something I am asking for in any way. Lets make that crystal clear given I have now accepted a few member device repairs :)

Think that's about it - I know the thread wants to see the lynx but is there anything people think I should really be on the hunt for?

nice list fella - defo on the lynx next :P , using hot air i got all caps off this audio board, think i found the issue with soldering iron tho, took shaft off and tip, the ceramic inside has shattered, not bad considering this 968+ i have is about 15 years old!, time for a new temp controlled soldering iron. Maybe just bite the bullet and get a nice Hakko :)

It's a decent enough list but was much bigger a few weeks back :( I seem to be cracking through the more difficult repairs quite quickly though which wasn't something I was prepared for - I expected the vita port to take more than an hour or so! Seemed almost insurmountable going in but an hour later it was all done. I think my soldering skills are improving all the time! :D
