Virgin Media 20Mb Cable customers Free upgrade to a new 30Mb Tier

20Mb to 30Mb upgrade will set you back £30 as you'll need a new modem (VM are using bonded channels on speeds over 20Mb, so it's Docsis 3).

strange as you get the superhub free with 20meg, got mine just before xmas. I just called then and refered them to the website link;

Since I got one I will call them again to upgrade me for free

For the 30MB service, looks like 30MB+ won't have the fair use policy for DLing limits during the peak times then!

Can you disable the router side of the superhub? There's no way I'm ditching my WNDR3700 for the VM bundled router, I just want the modem side....!

I'm guessing you could turn off DHCP and just use it as a switch?

I already have an 8port Gigabit switch but yeah I think that should work as so:

[Superhub -DHCP]
> [GIGABIT PORT 1]
[WNDR-3700 Router +DHCP]
))) [All wireless clients]
>> [GIGABIT PORT 1]
[Gigabit switch]
>> [All wired clients]

It would mean another box in the living room but hey ho...

I guess I'd have to disable pretty much everything in the Superhub's control panel as well (Firewall, monitoring, etc). Does it allow you to turn that stuff off? and assign a DMZ as I;d need to do that for my router.

Maybe.... I'm not too fussed I guess, still got 20MB and 2.5 up coming in July, just the 30MB would be nice especially for peak time usage at home.

Why 2.5Mb up? It's a 10/1 ratio with regards to downstream and upstream, so you'll get 2Mb (actually its 2080000 bits, so 1.98Mb) up.

Odd that it has been taken down, perhaps it shouldn't have gone up until 1st Feb (apparently that's when 30Mb goes live). Might be worth keeping an eye on this thread over on cableforum - http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33673990-20-mb-s-30mb-s-free.html
