Virgin Media broadband experiences?

The best thing to do Metroid is ring the complaint 'leaving department'. Can't think what the professional word is for that dep!

it's ridiculous how these companies work lol.

Or contact them through email on the twitter: http://twitter.com/VIRGINMEDIA I did this regarding the bill and all was fine. [email protected]
Just explain the problem and give them account number or telephone no

Thanks oli356,

I will do that. It is hard to understand why they are doing it. They want the extra money mainly because of the huge investment they did but is not fair as an existing customer for 6 long years and I think this should be a roll-out upgrade, charging a maximum of £10 more.

Had the cable broadband for 3 years during uni and it was fantastic, never had any issues with it. Now I'm using there ADSL and its w*nk, not sure if its the area, router or what but the router needs frequent rebooting or else you get no dl/ul

I've been with Freeserve, Home Choice, Bulldog, BE, and Virgin is probably the most unreliable ISP I've ever had to put up with.

It can be fine for weeks, full download, full upload, and then BAM!... I get severe packet loss, pings of over 10 seconds and download speeds of no more than 0.2 kB/s... this crap lasts for days.

I'm getting sick of the BS checklist they tell me to do every time I have to phone them. (reboot modem, plug it in directly to pc, etc..) The problem isn't at my end FFS...

I think this would be a good time..

net just went down for about 40 minutes.. well i thought it did.. and normally a restart of the equipment doesn't help. I've got bored of ringing them so i didn't bother.. I decided to restart router and well it all worked again lol

Was orginally with NTL about 10 years ago before virgin took them over and they have been very good. NTL orginally were quite annoying for the first few years as they were still doing a lot of repairs and upgrades to there connections. Ever since virgin has taken over ive had no problems at all. Currently had 50MB in my student accomodation for the past 2 years shared between 6 people, 4 of which are heavy internet users and torrent/stream/play online. Can not fault it at all.

Can't fault my 20Mb cable connection, has worked brilliantly for over 2 yrs. In the early days I had a few outages until they fixed a fault in the area, but since then it has been perfect. Way better than any ADSL connection because I'm a long way from an exchange. Just tossing up whether to pay the extra £8 per month for the 50Mb or not

I get through 300GB a month regularly on my 20Mb connection without any problems, always get the full 20 (19.5) down and 768 (730) up

Ive been with them since June last year and I can second this.

THey are fine for a while then suddenly it all goes absolutley crap. The past 4 weeks its been like this for me after 4pm - the internet is practically unusable.

I got an automated phonecall today stating that the problem in my area had been fixed but it appears to be worse if thats possible!

If I was living on my own I would have switched providers by now but unfortunately I live in a flat and my flatmates use the Virgin TV service :(

Holy Lands area behind Queens, got a feeling they've overloaded it a bit with the really high levels of student houses down here :(

Probably have, people are always complaining about living in or near student areas and having trouble. Although i am nowhere near a student area and still have problems

I can 3rd this.

I was with Virgin for a year, at first it was fine, 10mb down, up was always crap but pings were good. Then slowly the UBR became overused and I virtually had no internet from 4pm until 1am. Unplayable pings (in the hundreds). I put up with it for 6 months, complaining, letters, and nothing got done, I've now switched to plusnet and couldn't be happier, 20-30ms pings, 7mb down. I switched a few months ago and just checked in on a thread I was posting in - http://community.virginmedia.com/t5...nternet-in-East-London-Area/td-p/13830/page/6 it still isn't fixed yet.

Basically with virgin if it works it's amazing and all is good. If you are in an area that has or gets a UBR problem you are pretty screwed, and they don't have the resources to fix it. The last 3 months of my contract were free I was getting such poor service (that came about after multiple written letters and tonnes of calls to their support telling me it was my monitor too close or that yes there was a problem it will be fixed next week )

To be honest though you have the same problem with most broadband providers, when everything is working fine it's not a problem, but there are few that really provide decent service when it's crap.

I can back up what Dekez says. Virgin are excellent if the area you're in isn't overloaded, but if it is then you're stuffed.

Last year my 10mb connection started slowing down to a crawl. Turns out I was on Docsis 3.0 which has all the uncapped 50mb connections. I live in a student area and Virgin were overselling their 50mb packages to houses full of students who torrented 24/7.

Consequently my connection was unusable for months. The only way I got it fixed was to contact head office, and then they only fixed it by putting me back onto Docsis 2.0.

I'd have switched but the fastest ADSL I can get is 2mb, plus I no longer have a BT line.

The 50meg service I had before I moved (had it for a year) was by far the best internet I have used in the last 13+ years.

Nothing else even comes close to it. Shame im in a non cabled area now :(

It's great but be aware that when you first get it could be months until you are put on a reasonable UBR or they un oversubscribe them

Been with Virgin since the blueyonder days... Never had any issues, and when I have, they have been solved quite quickly and without much hassle. I get 19.86Mbit/s down which I can't really fault on my 20Mbit line.

Had problems only once for the last 2 years, but that was for a 3 day period! After a lot of pushing they credited my account with £50 for the inconvenience.
I am on a 10meg connection - didn't renew it after the initial contract expiry - they said it is on a month to month rolling contract. Just today got a call saying virgin have upgraded the speed from 10 to 20meg for the next 3 months, and I have to call and tell them before 26th Jan 2011 if I want to keep it at that or not.
