Virgin Media Discussion Thread

"Would not of" indeed.

To be fair, I've had good service from the Asian call centres. I find some of the ones in the UK call centres seem to think it's their money, or at least act like it.

Should be getting installed today... should be.

Hooray, 105 - 108 Mbps :)

and a reply from socialmedia team, 2 months free for my troubles :)

Anyone know of any deals on at the moment? Looking for 100 - 150mb deals really, anyone know of any?

Tried Sky but £30 for 80mb... £39 for 152mb Virgin is tempting - just trying to see if there are any bundles which knock the price down a bit.

Hope someone can help, been trying to get away from 10mb internet for a while!

It seems BT are never going to upgrade our exchange to fibre despite being in a fairly densely populated part of the second biggest city in the country, so I've been (and I can't believe I'm saying this) considering a return to Virgin...

Now my experience last time was so utterly wretched I swore I would never ever be a customer of theirs again. However, I've given up now on BT ever getting fibre here and now Virgin have stopped traffic shaping downloads, the speeds are very tempting. And our year-long BT contract is up soon...

I'd be mad to go back wouldn't I? They were so unreliable, I almost never had a working connect, and their customer service was the absolute pits. Still is, surely? Isn't it?

Go to the VM web forums and seach the net to see if other customers in your area are having problems. In my experience, if you are in a good area, VM's service is great. If you're over-subscribed or have legacy problems, you'll just be one of many customers stuffed onto an overloaded and under resourced network segment, and you'll be waiting for hell to freeze over before VM fix it.

It's almost like VM prefer to shed customers in a busy area rather than upgrade the network to support their new customers.

Good idea, that.

Yeah, we were having capacity issues in our area last time (old house, different area) and due to our position we were one of the houses that kept consistently having connection dropped when the local network was over-subscribed. Was completely horrendous, and I was tearing my hair out in frustration.

But, yeah, I'll have a shufty and see how things are in my current location.

Is anyone here on the 152mb service in the Manchester area? I am based in Didsbury and am looking to sign up but was wondering if there have been any utilisation issues in the past or that are ongoing?

Thanks

Ugh... having looked around a few broadband support forums, it seems a whole load of people are having utilization problems in south Birmingham, especially during term-time when all the students are online. From what people are saying it looks like Virgin have been up to their old tricks in this city of taking on more customers than their infrastructure can support and then not doing enough to upgrade it.

Not going to risk returning to them based on what I've read.

Anyone in south Birmingham having a good/bad/indifferent experience with VM?

I just got of the phone with retentions. My loyalty discount ended and was paying £79.50 a month (without the discount) for:

L Phone Talk Evening & Weekend
Caller display
XL + extra Tivo Box
Broadband XL (Up To 60mb)

My new contract = £52.50 for 12 months plus I got upgraded to 152MB BB so I'm pretty happy :D

Anyone else have the issue of not being able to login to their superhub? I've tried restarting it and seems lots of others have had the same problem, anyone had this issue and resolved it?

Just been informed that one of my old ntlworld email addresses is being deleted and I can expect the others to follow. I have been a BB customer at my current address for 14 years. Apparently due to various upgrades they have changed my account number (not something I ever requested). I apparently have the option of moving one of the addresses from the old account to my new account but that would then replace all the email addresses on the new account. Also, as I said to them, why on earth would I want to risk my future email accounts with them given the hassle this is now going to cause me. Not too pleased.

You can hardly blame them for wanting to stop supporting 10 year old plus domains that don't exist anymore and used by a handful of customers. You'd lose access if you changed ISP, so they aren't best relied on for anything important.

Buy your own domain and email for a few quid a year and move the old emails over.

Take your pick.

Every night at 8pm lately my connection has been throttled to hell. Disconnecting and reconnecting every minute or so, usually for about an hour...doing my head in.

Anyone else noticing really bad ping which makes games unplayable?

EDIT- speed tests on TB are extremely slow too!
