If I put the super hub into modem mode for a day will it give me a new IP when in router mode? I have a netgear WNDR3700 which fails to allow me access to its web setup which doesn't help things.

Unlikely. Unless your local DHCP server at the head end is reset or starts giving out old IP leases (because it runs out), what will happen is it will remember the IP associated with your two MACs (one for the superhub and one for the router) and you'll get those back depending which MAC address is active.

Your best bet to changing IP is to have your router clone the MAC address from your PC, and use that to give you a new IP. Don't just make up a MAC, as if you clash with someone else on the network, you will have problems and so will some innocent party.

Why do you want a new IP anyway?

No, you'd have to switch off your modem for a set period of time. I'm not sure how long Virgin Media give out their leases for.

YES!

Booting the SH to Modem Mode from Router Mode or vice versa will 99% of the time give you a new IP even within the lease period which is now 24hours and you can see this in your network settings n Windows.

If it sticks, leave in Modem Mode and connect a Laptop or 2nd PC to it and reboot SH and the new devices NIC's MAC address will force a new IP.

Good Afternoon,

Having just received my bill for this month I thought I'd see if what I'm currently paying is in line with others.

Have been with VM for good number of years and wasn't sure if it was worth contacting them to see if I could get a better deal?

The thing I begrudge paying is the Line Rental, especially when there isn't even a phone plugged into it.

Anyone have the same bundle and paying less than I am currently?

Regards

My superhub appears to be stuck in a boot loop. Ill give vm a call tomorrow, maybe theyll send me one of those fancy .ac ones lol

False alarm, the power supply died. again. up and running now, just upgraded to the big kahuna bundle so ive got my 152mb internet and xl tv now, and just had the UI updated for the tivo. looks good!

izzop, I signed up in September and my Big Kahuna price is £45 a month, so you should easily be able to get at least a fiver a month knocked off as that's the standard price.

On an 18 month contract I was also able to get £10 a month off for the first 12 months.

Which means over the 18 months it balances out at just over £38 per month.

To get a bit off the line rental you can call up and pay a year in advance for £144.

So effectively £12 a month instead of the £16. That'll save you an extra £48 a year.

Thinking forward, if I get the discounted rate for 12 months. Then pay the normal rate for the final 6 months it works out at an average of £13.33 per month for line rental.

So works out at about £13.33 + £38.33 = Approx £52 per month all in for 18 months for the same spec package that you're on.

That's not taking into acc. the approx £100 I hope to get back from quidco, although that only really works if you're a new customer.

Hope that helps :)

Anyone got recommendations for a good router to use with the Superhub 2 in modem mode?

Got a problem with a few devices losing connecting over the 2.4GHz (red cross on the connection), only solved by changing the channel, the key, basically anything that makes the router refresh the wireless. 5GHz is fine, but most of our devices can't use that. Better than the original Superhub which would lose the wifi for all devices but still annoying.

Makes sense to invest in a decent router that can move from cable, fibre, etc for the future.

I heard ASUS are decent? Wireless range would be most important, since we're only on 50Mb and don't do much transferring over the network.

I've found a D-Link DIR-810L for a pretty good price -£20. Any good? Tests in reviews suggest it'll cope perfectly well with any internet connection up to 100mb, since it's limited by it's fast ethernet ports.

EDIT: Went with the TP-Link TL-WDR3600 in the end. Good reviews, only £44.99. Not bothered about ac since we have no compatible devices. Might try sticking OpenWRT on it. Are those firmwares supposed to be more stable? Or just for adding features?
