Virgin Media Discussion Thread

How much are companies allowed to put the price up before it's deemed unfair and something a consumer could kick up a fuss and get out of contract?

The amount doesn't matter you can use these increases to get out of the virgin one, people do it every year when they raise them. If i remember right you have something like 30 days from each announcement to get out of it.

Sent the TP-Link WDR3600 back - the range was considerably worse than the Superhub 2, particularly for 5Ghz. So I've just posted on the Virgin forums about our problems with the 2.4Ghz channel dropping (no devices can connect, security changes to WEP - only fixed by a reboot/channel change/key change) to try and get a Superhub 2ac sent out.

I haven't been notified by email - presumably that will happen ? If I hadn't read it here, I would not have known.

So is there any incentive to use a third party router if your Wifi connection works properly?

There's loads of stuff a decent third party router can do as standard that VM has stripped out of the Superhubs in order to make it easy to support eg, traffic management, traffic stats, multiple DNS, guest wireless networks, etc.

I'll be phoning them later this evening to cancel my TV & phone.
Keeping the bb though, I called earlier but was told all the system was down & they couldn't process anything?
Also the guy said I'm getting a £21 a month discount currently due to having all three services.... If that was the case my normal bill should be £98 per month!!! This is despite the fact I haven't spoken to anyone at Virgin for 2 years +
When I said a new customer could have the same as I currently have for £40+ a month less he just went quiet.

Already spoken to sky & with a quidco deal, the family TV package will cost me £23 per month, including a 1tb HD box, £50 account credit & £110 cashback.

Having been a Virgin customer for many years I'm disappointed with how companies treat long term customers. There's no incentive these days to be brand loyal any more.

I'm a recently new user to Virgin after using ADSL for years. I came in here wondering if my latencies were acceptable but from previous comments it looks like they are. here's my graph anyway for the record. Speeds are excellent on my 152mb service (162mb, 11mb)

What I have found is that my connection isn't as stable as it was on ADSL, I need to reboot the SH every 1-2 weeks otherwise weird LAN gremlins creep in, or the speed drops, or latencies increase massively. Quite frustrating. My Billion ADSL router used to go months without rebooting and it was fine.

Would moving to modem only mode 'help'?

We wanted to let you know that from 1 February 2015, the price you pay for your Virgin Media services will be going up by £3.84 a month. We know a price rise is never welcome, but it means we can continue to bring you the very best. You enjoy the UK's fastest widely available broadband, according to Ofcom's October 2014 report - a service that also saw us named Best Broadband Provider, based on millions of consumer speed tests conducted by uSwitch. Plus, you can get inclusive services like our SmartCall app that could save you money by using your home phone talk plan on your smartphone, when connected to WiFi, along with servicing and repairs for no extra cost.

Wat.

How do I gtfo of this increase? My upload STILL has not gone up and now my price is going up too? This will not stand I tell you.

Edit*
Phoned up, politely moaned, got some loyalty discount applied so instead of the £43.99 I'm currently paying I will be paying £38.99 and come Feb 2015 it will be £41.99 saving me a shade under £6 a month.

That'll do.

Oh and Upload increase is still on the cards for this month.

Come home, letter from Virginmedia about prices increasing by a fiver.
On the blower to them,
"Listen lad... I've still not had my supposedly free speed upgrade that was promised last year when the prices were increased by a fiver and now the price is increasing again... gimmie one reason why i shouldnt **** off to another provider.."

"Free Tivo box, free delivery, speed increase and price freeze at what you are paying a the moment for the next 12 months."

"Laffin lad."

If anyone has any speed issues/reliability issues/wifi range issues, i'd highly recommend buying a separate router and placing the so called Superhub in modem mode, I have done this and doubled the range and speed.

Of course if you want the fastest connection I would just suggest using a powerline or direct ethernet cable.
