Virgin Media Discussion Thread

12Mbit is the correct upload for 152Mbit. If you get near those speeds then you're doing better than some of us :p

I've had a issue with high utilisation in my area for a year (I opened my thread on the 4/12/13!). Here's todays blazing speeds on the 'best of the best' VM can offer.

Yup but the thing is VM staff saying one thing, the website showing one thing and actually it's another thing :p

Here's my peak time evening speedtest:

Damn that's rather heavy ::o

The red is when I was faffing around with VM and the hub trying to get 15Mbit up :p

I think I'll just sit happy that everything works and not jinx it :o

That link is win, I will bookmark thanks.

So you believe me now then. ;) I've been on 152Mb for a good while and even before then I knew that the upload was still going to the same as it was on the 120Mb. Which was a major grievance to a lot of people as Virgin normally go 10:1 ratio. They should be increasing it but we'll see when that actually occurs.

It's hard to take as I'm in Latvia quite often and my cousin there has 250Mb down and 250Mb up for ~£15 month.

Maybe VM's policy should be to slow everyones downstream down so they can get 10:1 or better again :p

11am in VM land and I already can't get half my download speed

:(

One saving grace is that the 2nd line guy did go into some detail about the 300Mbit testing VM have been doing. Apparently it was a great success and that they are ready to start rolling it out next year hence why this year has seen a big drive in upgrading the hardware infrastructure.

My midday speeds are better than evening speeds naturally:

You basically need to barter hard in the knowledge of what can be achieved. I got mine for £22/month (including price rise) for 152Mb broadband only - I don't want the phone, though I think there maybe people on here who get phone included in that for around the same price or not too much more.

Call retentions and tell them you are paying too much and want to reduce your bill. Usually you don't need to push them too much these days, they'll just look at the system and see what they can offer you.

Thanks both. I actually received a letter from them saying I should upgrade my package because I'm paying more than I could be (phone calls my father in law keeps making from my house thinking we get free calls 24/7) - so telling them I'm paying too much and want something better should be an easy sell :)

I wish! ;) AFAIK it's 12.7Mb officially. I can not see any information otherwise to suggest they've increased it from this.

Is there any chance you could trust me your account number? I'm trying to get them to drop my price from £29 a month as I think it's way too much considering the on going problems, and they're swearing blind that I'm on the lowest price available ever for 152Mb. They've said if I can give them the account number of someone getting a greater discount, they can see what they can do. :p

Ever since the "upgrade" for doublespeed was completed in my area at the end of November I've noticed that Youtube and Play Store downloads are very slow. I was already on 152Mbit of course because earlier in the year I managed to get the tech folks on the phone to bump me up to it since I was due to get the free boost to 152 anyway come November's end and it has been just fine.

Seems whatever upgrade to the area was done has affected Play Store and youtube.

Created a thread about it here: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5...d-Play-Store-downloads-very-slow/td-p/2562174

Hey m8, I'm currently paying £35 a month for 50mb, would you mind trusting me your account number? Dropping to £29 would do me. :)

Just tell them you have a BT line and Virgin Media line, and the fact you could just totally switch your broadband to Plusnet for £18.45 / month for both line rental and broadband and drop Virginmedia altogether...

I wonder what they would say then lol. ;)
