Virgin Media Discussion Thread

How did you test the speed? Not with speedtest.net?

Multiple servers on speedtest.net and on thinkbroadband. At one point it hit over 100mb then settles around 50mb.

I just did the service check on the VM site and it's asked me to restart the equipment in 10 minutes.

I'm not convinced the cable is ok, the guy thought he found a break in it at one point and stripped it back, then it started working and I don't think he did anything to cover it up. Quite surprising that the cable had no shielding at all.

I just did a test on thinkbroadband. 81.5mbps bursting to 96.7mbps which is way out.

I'm downloading 10 files on FileZilla from a seedbox and getting 20-22 MB/sec sustained transfer.

I just called them, the guy did a line test then after said there was a fault reported in my area and that it's being worked on. Hopefully this is true and I get full speed soon.

Anyone else have zero joy using the SuperHub2ac in modem mode?

Despite my best efforts I simply cannot get it to pass through a WAN address to my new router. Tried factory resets of everything, different boot orders, MAC cloning, connecting directly to my device, leaving the hub off for a period of time etc.

At best I get a 192.168.100.100 address which is good for nothing but communicating with the SH2 to take back out of modem mode..

Very frustrating!

Mine works fine, I have the sh2ac in modem mode, have you definitely got the router plugged in to port 1 of the sh?

Am thinking about moving from BT to virgin as my Infinity 2 speeds are down at 32mbps when they used to be high 60+ and i struggling to get our BTTV internet channels (constant IPC6023 errors)

My issue is the front of our house is block paved so no way to get the cable, as far as i can see from the current point to our house. In addition, our TV is on the right side of our of our house. Does the cable from the street need to have TWO internal connections in the house? one for the phone and another one for the TV or can you run the TV box over powerline adapters?

Honestly I wouldnt. Virgin are widely over subscribed in most areas and on a 200mb package I struggle to get 2mb down at peak times. Last night was the worst I've had and actually had to resort to tethering on my phone and I couldnt game online at all due to the shocking latencies.

Even Spotify was buffering.

+1, wouldn't move to VM from FTTC.

If your speeds are that low it could be a fault.

No fault unfortunately as outside of peak I get 180-200mb and everything is fine, its only during weekends and evenings and is obviously serious over subscription, congestion and traffic prioritisation.

Virgin have also agreed to terminate my service as of 10th March for free after only 3 months of an 18 month term so I've just subscribed to a fibre service again which is live 24th Feb.

Yay!

I mean the chap with FTTC and seeing half the speed he used to have.

Ah fair enough. :D
You are right, his speeds dropping like that do point to something not being right somewhere.

I am currently on the Full House bundle, but never watch their TV channels, nor do I ever use the phone.. Its coming up to contract renewal date soon, what kind of prices should I be looking for to keep the 200mb only, no TV or landline?

So I finally got sick of the drop outs and moved to BT.

After I told this to Virgin they called me back and offered to pay my line rental for the next 12 months and knock £8.50 off my remaining bill, taking it from £32.50 to £24 a month all in.

While I consider that a fair offer I have to stay with my decision to move away though as what good is a service if you never know when it will stop working?
