Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Having the same issue except it will eventually drop on the 5G as well. Virgin support simply won't do anything if wired is working.

Considering getting a router and running the thing in modem mode but need suggestions on what to pick? Any help greatly appreciated

I read a few threads on the virgin forum over the weekend as it was really annoying me, I changed the band from 11 to 6 and it hasn't dropped since, and my phone has been connected to the 2G band so I could monitor it. Might be worth a try.

So called virgin to see if I could get a better deal on our broadband and phone.

Currently paying £56 per month for

Vivid 100
Phone unlimited (free land line calls)
Super hub 1

Was offered £43 per month for

Vivid 150
No phone
Free upgrade to super hub 3

After chatting for a bit declined the offer and asked for a cancellation on next billing cycle which is April 1st.

Should I expect a call back from them offering a better deal? Or time to search for a new provider!!?

Damn,

my family are paying £45 - 51 a month for:

70Mbps BB (SuperFibre 70).
MIxed TV
Talk More Anytime (used to be Talk Unlimited as far as I know).

IMHO, I'd use the fact you have the SuperHub 1 as a way to get VM to lower your monthly bill and instead of the SuperHub 3 I'd probably opt for the SuperHub 2AC... :) I'd just put the thing in Modem Mode and hook up my own router. :) :D :p

Hmm, it's a good offer, not sure Virgin throw deals at cancelled customers like some of their rivals do, you've got time to wait it out though.

Yes that's what o was thinking, I can wait a couple of weeks and if no call can just cancel the cancellation request and take up the offer they offered.

Hmm so the super hub 2ac is better than the 3? I've got a asus n66u router that I use and have the super hub 1 in modem mode.

Does your graph still show the latency increase as above? ... mine has started to show at the exact same times as above so guessing VM have problems again?

My average ping is about 60ms atm. (usually sub 25ms)

it's a live graph. around 1pm is when i restarted the router and as you can see it went back toi normap for half a day

Exactly the same issue in the Neath area (ref 25)

Started Friday 3rd for me

IF I remember rightly didn't VM have this same problem a few months ago?

Looking at previous graphs it looks like it may of started on the 28th Feb for me (area 21)

I'm getting fed up of family members complaining there Internet is slow or there lagging on xbox. (lagging is probably more than likely EA server)

Thankfully Virgin 2nd line retentions called today and offered a much better deal than what the guy earlier offered.

150mb
Standard phone (weekend calls free)
Superhub 2ac

£31 pm inc line rental

Last offer was £43 for the same exact deal so was worth the risk cancelling the contract for the next billing month.

VM seem to be having more and more contention issues lately; I've been subject to one for about a year now, and it's not showing any signs of getting better. The fault ticket keeps getting pushed further out, though to their credit they're discounting my subscription as well.

The snapshot below is not the worst either, just an average day.

For comparison, this is my NowTV FTTC (synched at 64/20) link for the same day...

They both connect into the same firewall device, though NowTV has the public IP on the modem as I can't use their funky DHCP Option 61 on my firewall...
