I'm curious as to why 100 Mbps isn't enough? It's enough for the vast majority of families in this country.

lol.

I have 60 Mbps and it's more than enough for the average household. Multiple 4k streams, YouTube doesn't buffer, sites load fast etc. I'm getting 900/120 FTTP because I'm a heavy user and I work from home moving 20+ GB files around on an almost daily basis and quite frankly it's just painful. However, for an average and I'm assuming slightly older household, regular FTTC if available would be more than enough and work out far cheaper than Virgin Media if going with the likes of BT and their TV box as an example.

Hi yes the deals are for new customers only. What people usually do is sign up under a partners name or friends to get the deal.

Hi they do change monthly but currently there is a good deal on the ultimate oomph which is virgins top bundle.
I believe you can take the deal and delay installation but I think that would probably be around a month and not two. I can refer you then when you speak to them you can see if it can be done if you like.
I went for this deal, getting delivered today (or sometime in the next year as it's yodel delivering)

If you can, are you able to say where you are getting that offer from? About to sign up for some broadband for my new place. I'm seeing £40 a month for 18 months then £56 a month after that for the M350 package on the Virgin Media site so £720 for the first 18 months. The price you're showing of £27.84 would mean a total cost over 18 months of £501.12! If I could get the M350 for that price and save £220 I could either put it towards the M500 package or a phone line.

That said, I'm not too bothered about getting a phone line. Would be a bonus but nothing to be too concerned about. I'd receive more calls on it than I would make and most of them would probably be spam/marketing calls anyway.

That was on Money Saving Expert, there is a couple of comparison sites offering the same deal

Do you have to use the supplied virgin media coax cable with the isolator if there is already an isolator in the wall box?

My wall box is right in the corner of my flat, I have a really long coax cable that is currently working just fine but reading on the VM forums I shouldn't use it as:
The cable has an inline safety isolator. These are only provided in a fixed length. Anything else is non standard & has to be made up by a Virgin tech on-site. It is against t&c’s to make any DIY alterations as the installation has to be immune to any ingress from local Freeview TV or DAB radio transmissions as they use the same frequencies as Virgin. The cable is specifically produced for this purpose. The cost will be a standard £99 to include all the cabling/connectors & any adjustments that are required in the street cabinet to balance the levels of the longer run. If you had wanted this alteration at the actual time of the install this would have cost considerably less.
(not gonna lie, this sounds like utter nonsense)

I can also the short cable and buy an ethernet cable to my router from the modem but for now it's gonna be a right mess.

Not sure what you are asking but the cable will come in and have and end with a F-Type on it and you can screw it onto any type of Splitter with approx. 3-6bd ( think now they supply 4db).

Or even directly into rear of HUB power levels may be wrong though depending on length of cable, hence the splitter, this is what is inside those plastic boxes, just a cover.

I don't have any splitters on my cable, just a single cable into an isolator.

Can I safely use a much longer cable without an isolator? I tried plugging it in and I got the full 400mbit/s download so I think it's all fine.

It had to do with your power levels you can see them inside the HUB GUI and beyond a certain range you cannot do much in your home as the engineer needs to adjust at the Cabinet.

All those unnecessary connections/joins add up and can add noise.

Did virgin do a credit check? If so, Soft or Hard check? Soon to be making a mortgage application, I'm avoiding any hard credit checks on me.
And my plusnet deal is coming to an end in few weeks.
Would love to jump over to Virgin.

Thanks for that. Was hoping a soft check.:(
You do give permission for them to do it and I don't recall the wording, I just assumed it would be a soft check but then I got a notification on my credit report so say a hard search had been added.

Any telecoms provider will hard check you, a mortgage company isn’t going to take a negative view of you because you switched telecoms providers every 12-24 months, now if you have a bunch of payday loan companies and credit card/loan companies going through, that’s slightly different.

Really? PlusNet, O2, EE, Vodafone, BT, Sky and Zen are all companies I've taken contracts out with in the past 4 years or so and none of them put a hard check on my report, only soft from some of them (I took Zen out recently and nothing).

The only time I ever get a hard check on my report is if I'm wanting to borrow money, be it a loan, mortgage, car PCP etc. Or when I look at Virgin Media installation dates.

I'm with Plusnet atm, and they did not do a hard check on me when i switched over. But you're the second person who has mentioned the same thing regarding no mortage company will take that into account.

Good thing i have no loans finance etc etc.
