I am considering switching from my current ISP, +net and signing upto Virgin, Broadband only.

With the wall socket connected to the outer wall downstairs front and my PC situated upstairs rear. Is it possible to have an extension rather than an ethernet cable running between the downstairs and the upstairs?

How are yours set up?

Do you have any cable services already?
You can have the wall socket installed into any room they can run the cable to, and will normally run it outside the house until the sockect (although you may need to tell them when you order it that you want it fitted upstairs).
We've currently got it terminating in 3 rooms (3 STB's and a modem).

Cable is switched off and has been for a few years now since going back with BT.
I quite like the idea of the Homeplugs TBH.

This a good thread i a min the same boat, the house we moving too want VM broadband in 2 of the rooms upstairs, what to they charge extra to have the sockets in rooms upstairs.

Depends on the installers you get really.
I had them install the modem downstairs in the living room where its then connected to a wireless router for my laptop, and then via ethernet to my 360 and media centre PC.
They also kindly (without charge) put a cable from downstairs outside the property and into my study upstairs.
So my main PC in the study is connected to the router downstairs via ethernet so i dont have any probs with a flaky wireless connection.
They did it no problem at all, a mate also asked and he bunged them a tenner for doing it.

They will install it in any room in the house, so long as they can get to it from the outside. They won't run a cable through your house.

Thats good to know the box is on ground level under the front room window and i want the broadband to go in the upstairs room which is directly above.

Be cool with the fitter & he will fit enouth cable to get it to most rooms.
I have enouth cable coming in my front room to be able to trace it up to my front bedroom if i want.
