Hi guys,

My surfboard keeps resetting every once in a while. Also, I've noticed that the internet speed getting extremely slow whenever I have uTorrent up, despite setting up the right connection (limited to a low upload speed).

Any idea?

I was having a similar issue on the Surfboard 3100 cable modem as you're having for a few months before recent work in the Renfrew area was complete so I don't know if it was just down to an over-subscribed UBR or not as I used to get a lot of modem reboots as well.

Since the work was completed I haven't had any, though I've set my download limit to 800k (I'm on 10 Mb just now while waiting for new modem under Quick Start) and the upload to 30k.

Are you using a router at all? I thought the problems I had might have been due to my Linksys WRT54GS v4 router until I installed the latest DD-WRT firmware. If so try removing the router and see if you have the same problems.

Hey,

I've got the same router. How do you open a port of a number of computers behind the network?

I recently updated it but will see if there's another one available.

I had a feeling it was a this stupid TCP patch I installed. Just formatted the machine.. we'll see how it goes.

It’s defiantly to do with the number of open connections your torrent client is using, Azareus by default is 250 - 50 try 100 - 40 that should solve your problem It did for me anyway after many hours of scratching my head ;)

I had some strange problems using utorrent. I'd open it up and everything would drop - internet, email the lot. Close utorrent and it all worked again. I thought I had it all setup correctly on virgin media, but not sure. Use bittorrent now.

I use UPnP on my router for my main desktop when using uTorrent. I think there was a problem with the default firmware and the number of connections torrents use that the DD-WRT firmware solved by upping the maximum connections allowed.

I can't remember what the exact fix was but you should be able to find it somewhere here in the FAQ section.
