Virginmedia expected to make their 50mb announcement today

Anyone seen any kind of roll out plan yet? Where is being upgraded and when etc?
 
Rumours are they are going to dump STM altogether and start using deep packet inspection hardware to simply throttle specific types of traffic (bittorrent etc...).

With previous modem replacements, they offered the choice of doing it yourself which would save a bit of money. I assume that 50Mb would also have the choice of a self install of the modem. Although if they don't, perhaps it requires something special to activate, or configure at the location, i don't know.

Apparently they have to test the line from the customer premises to make sure they can get the 50mb.
