Virginmedia to Upgrade 10mbps to 20mbps

I am in the test area and I am getting 10mbps now and 768K upload, not happy with the price increase so its £27 for 10mbps but the service is top notch so its not too bad the price increase must be due to the SKY dealings.

Since I moved to VM I have never had any problems with the service. From a good server I can consistently get over the 10mbps mark. I am not sure if Manchester has been included the trial

Do you think the extra £2.00 is excessive for doubling the speed or the fact its £37.00 for a 20mbps service ?

considering those supplying ADSL2+ are supplying them at a cost of ~£25/month unlimited

yes

granted you dont see the full 24meg or whatever of ADSL2+ and you will see the full 20mb of VM, but i still wouldnt pay an extra £13 a month for another 4mb or whatever.

What he said, also it worries me that they have been in charge 5 mins and are already putting up the prices.

NTL upped the speed from 768kbs to 10meg (over time)and reduced the price by £3.

Maybe they think thats the right price point for the service. To me it seems a little overpriced but I suspect if and when other companies get close to the 20mbps mark on a consistent basis, they will reduce price or increase line speeds even further

Just called them and did the "thinking of changing to SKY" thing. (I had no such intention of course....been with BY for years and great service!)

No arguments at all and my total bill now reduced by £35 a month and credited on next bill with £27.

I would urge people to call them up.....be prepared for a 30min wait on phone but once through they will jump through hoops to keep your custom.

He also said the speed increases come online on the 1st May.

The upload is still sagging. A couple of Mbit upload paired with 20 Mbit download would be a lot more attractive.

Thanks for the suggestion poopscoop!
Just called them up and even though i've only been with them for a week, they reduced my bill by just over £30 per month.

I wonder why they're putting prices up...

This now leaves a huge hole in their service though... 2MB, 4MB, 20MB! Surely they should introduce a new speed grade, or space out the existing speeds a bit more evenly?

2MB will probably go to 4MB, 4MB to 10MB and 10MB to 20MB, that's what I see happening.

And then eventually it will all get moved up again.

I pay 17.99 for solid 10meg, I think I can afford £2 extra to double it :)

Actually that have credited me £5's back in the last 2 months and thats it? So I'm being paid to use their service lol..?

The 10mb to 20mb is meant to be going ahead from April 1st till mid May, then once all the 10 megers have been done, Virgin will beguin moving the lower tier customers So I read from Alex Brown (ex BY Tech guy) Newsgroup post a little while back.

Sweet I'm on 4MB atm :D But will everyone get charged the extra £2?

I don't mind the increase for a 150% speed increase, just wondering :)

I am sure the £2 increase is just if you are using Cable only aka no phone tv deal with them, doesnt affect you if you using phone TV with them. 2mb goes to 4mb, 4 goes to 10 I think... or is it 8?
