VIruses found - how would I clean up?

My mother-in-law has had her computer running without any service packs or patches since she had it and although she had some anti virus software this is invected with a few trogan horses.

Some of these are related to system32 and NT which is stating that they are infected.

Would a repair work on these or would l have to hunt down the individual names and find out what they are?

Or is it complete refresh?

If she doesn't have much on her system, it would be quicker and easier to reload the system from scratch (after backing up her documents/emails etc), install SP2 and updates and get some decent antivirus. A Windows repair will not make any difference.

If she does, then give NOD32 trial ago. Scan in safe mode. Turn off system restore as well. www.nod32uk.com
