Hey all,

Just thought I would share some pics and videos of my outing to Curborough Sprint Course.
Went there with the guys over at www.yamMINI.com and had a lot of fun.

I was using some pretty old tyres, which I am kind of regretting due to a big lack of grip, and extremely mushy sidewalls. I pretty much rubbed off all the writing on the front passenger tyre and a lot of the guys were commenting on how it looked like it was going to come off the wheel! :o
But despite the poor tyres, I definitely had fun, I think I will just have to run my normal wheels and tyres, or just get some decent tyres fitted to my BBS wheels for when I go on track again. I would also definitely benefit from some uprated anti roll bars! It was a bit like a boat out there with it's old standard suspension and roll bars.. but it gives me something to change for the future.

A couple of the guys had R888s fitted to their MINIs and they could literally point the steering and go, I was very VERY impressed with them :)

The course is only short, so we just did a good few laps at a time to really make the most of it, and being most peoples first encounter of a track of any sort, was quite a fun learning experience.

The day started out pretty damp, it wasn't raining, but had done the night before I presume, but either way slippy! On my second set of laps I spun it coming on to the straight, and later on nearly lost it just taking it steady heading to the main part of the track
But it eventually dried out and that's when I started to remove the writing from my sidewall :D I had great fun towards the end of the day in the little S-bend section where I literally was swinging the tail out each way, fantastic fun! Even laid down a trail of 4 tyre marks all around that section!

So anyway, pics:

Some videos - please bare in mind all of these were taken earlier on in the day so everyone in the videos was still getting to know the course :) Unfortunately the battery died on the camera so I didn't get anything later in the day.

the STI is looking superb.
very clean, i am assuming you had the fastest lap times :D

quick question, is there a difference in the paint colour in the door?
or is it just the photos,

what happened to your door?

good videos tho

When I got car jacked they damaged the door. I replaced it, and the colour match isn't as good as it could be. Ideally I could do with getting the door matched properly, but I can't say I am overly bothered.. in some light it looks fine, in others it doesn't. The match just isn't great!

Thanks rkjoneill, yes I was fastest :D But those things with R888s are pretty awesome! I want some now..

Your Scoob looks wicked coming down the main straight, looks like it gathers some serious speed.

New wheels too? Me likey. Car looks spot on.

Looks pretty superb, but been such a short course, definetely a killer for the brakes.

So how much does it cost to go on a sprint like that, I'm assuming its far cheaper and a lot more relaxed than a track day? Take it helmet is not required either?

The Scoob sounds nice and seem quite well planted, though your dump valve was driving me mad. :p

The whine of that Mini GP's supercharger was lovely. :)

What tyres were you running?

R888 are the stickiest tyres out there but so expensive now.
Why don't you look at the Bridgestone RE070 or Advan AD08, both practically as sticky as the R888, but both have stiffer sidewalls and both are better in the wet, plus loads cheaper. :)

And then you've got the Fed RSRs which do all of the above, but are cheaper still :).

They aren't that much cheaper that AD08's though are they? Certainly not in my size, there's only three quid in it :)

Tempted by a set of sticky tyres myself when it's time to change.

Yeah they are some BBS wheels off another model, the Spec C. Very light wheels at only 7.2kg a wheel. 2.5kg lighter than the standard wheels :) I love how the car looks currently, thanks :D

However, I just used the tyres on them which are some older Michelins are way past their best, or the sidewalls have always been rubbish I don't know.

I normally run on my standard alloys, Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas which are much much much better than what is fitted to these BBS wheels.

Yeah I was carrying a lot more speed than the others, but it meant I was on the brakes a lot earlier too!

£550 for the whole day (10-1 and then 2-5) you rent the place out, and moderate it etc yourself. So you have the keys, you open up, you close up, return the keys. I paid on giving the keys back. So between 10 of us it was £55 each - great value IMO. You do as you please in regards to the helmets etc really.

If I do get around to buying tyres to replace the ones on my BBS wheels as used here it will probably be something like the RE070 or similar as they are standard fit on JDM cars, and apparently fantastic. Or I may just try used my Vredsteins on the other alloys one day, we'll see. For now, on the road, the car will go back to standard alloys with the Vreds as they are in great condition.

Re my dumpvalve, yeah I'm going to block it off next time I get a remap as I'm finding it a bit annoying when hammering the car, but I love it when just driving normally :D

I'm sure when we were at cadwell, the pro instructor told us it was pointless.

Surely there is a reason for it otherwise that would mean there is no point to heel and toe. If you are just dumping down the gears without rev matching you can cause the wheels to lock, especially for a rwd car.

Nice vids though, looks like a good day of fun!
