visited the purple shirt place tonight,

jesus, having made a couple of purchases at the said purple shirt place last year i had no issues of being lied to or being pressured into paying for warranties i dont want or "backup discs" funnily enough there is a backup partition on the lappy we bought so why on earth would i want to pay a tenner for a dvd with the same? it just seems that they have decided that every person walking in the door will be brow beaten into paying for something they dont want

Yes, because they know that most of their customers don't know any better and can therefore be pressurised into buying extras that are almost always useless and almost pure profit for the company.

It's a shoddy way to do business, but it's profitable so some places use it. Staff are ordered to coerce customers into buying extras that make the most profit for the company, with total disregard for whether or not those extras are of any use to the customer at all. Upselling is very common in most markets, e.g. "Do you want fries with that?"

there's a couple of guys I work with whose sales figures are damn impressive.....purely for this reason, they badger the customers till they either take what they're trying to sell, or walk off, if they walk off, their sales figures aren't damamger, if they give in, they've improved their performance, it's funny for those of us who are actually decent people walking past seeing the looks of desperation on the customer's faces and feeling sorry for them

and yes, these sales collegues are massive ****s
I'm personally up for review as I'm "not performing as I should" because I don't push at all Imention things to customers, and if it sparks interest then so be it, if not, move on, and I hate the way I'm seen by customers, all assuming I'm just trying to peddle my goods onto them

I went in there last year looking for a quick backup solution. I asked one of the staff where the USB HD's where and he just replied "over there somewhere" and continued to stare out of the window.

I said "well if you can't be arsed ******* looking then neither can I" and I walked out. My daughter was a little shocked by this.

Some of the crap friends/family have told me the staff have said to them is just appalling. I know the pay probably isn't great and the hours suck but people should have a little pride in their work. It can't be any more difficult to learn about a product than it is to make up lies about it.

Why? Just say you want nothing other than the laptop and to be served straight away.
Going to another store from same people is lol worthy, yo lose out on time and travel costs and risk getting the same treatment. Go you.

I just say "No thankyou, You obviously do not know what you are talking about so please allow me to shop in peace."

It can be frustrating, but I generally stop shopping in places that are overly pushy and go elsewhere. Like another store yesterday (rhymes with vomit), I wanted to buy a Sony bluray player, they had 3 in stock when I called before driving to the store.

I get to the store and was told that all 3 were on display, I explained that I had called and reserved one on the phone just 90 minutes beforehand. The answer was, "sorry policy is we do not sell display items until the item is discontinued", they said they could order me one in about a week, I said "No thankyou, I will go elsewhere for all my purchases in future", I went to RS and bought one cheaper.

No need to get bolshy with some poor minimum wage guy who is doing what he is told, just don't return in future"

I fully agree with you, I don't have too much of a problem with sales people if they tell the truth and take no as an answer. But I think what they do should be illegal, it is just our right lying trying to part you and your money.

just after xmas I was after a laptop, blueray and a hoover, I knew the model numbers of them all. The 1st purple shop i went to just couldn't stop themselves from lying and up selling through lying. So we left and went to a smaller one and the sales person there was fine, I gave codes, he got stock, 1 question about warranty and we were all done.

Guess it is just down to the individual sales person and how much they value possible extra commission over a guaranteed sale.

erm yes i did i started out in the uddingston store lost the rag with the harrasment and bull at the counter and ended up driving up to finnieston

angry because i really dont like being lied to or having some jumped up scrote trying to co-erce me into buying something i neither want nor need.
Why not just chill out, keep saying "No" and just get to the till with the Laptop a few mins later. By storming off in some sort of righteous angry angsty huff you proved nothing to anyone, impressed no one, and certainly wouldn't have changed that salesman's approach when he next gullible person walked in.

Lord only knows what you'd do if someone actually did you wrong. Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive.

I think that your money might perhaps have been better spent on an Anger Management course rather than on a laptop ;)

next person that says i have anger issues get their legs broken :D:D:D

i was at the tlll when i went off of one, i was ready to buy card in hand when the idiot wouldnt leave up about the bleeding backup discs he was trying to push. i clearly stated did not want and he kept going. i spat the dummy and walked out. between their leaky store dripping on me and their bloody drippy sales staff lying to me i had had enough

that said on the plus side the advent "thingy" i've come home with seems realitively free of bloat ware and crap. and actually seems quite snappy out of the box

I don't understand why people get so annoyed over stuff like this. I've been in the same situation a few times and i just shrug it off, be polite to the salesperson and make my purchase. It's the customers that i see acting like big babies i want to punch in shops, not the assistants
