Powered on my PC this morning and it won't boot into Vista 64 :(. I believe there were some MS updates I installed yesterday, and other than that nothing hardware/software has changed. If i try to boot in Safe mode, it gets to c:\windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys and goes no further. Last known good mode also fails to load. I've got my Vista dvd which I tried to boot from to do system repair or get to command prompt but when it boots from DVD, the white loading bar completes, then the green scrolling bar appears, and finally the pale blue screen appears with a mouse pointer but nothing else. I've left it for a while and no dialog box comes up.
I've managed to get a boot disk with access to the hard disk, and I've tried renaming the following files as suggested elsewhere but that didn't help.
\windows\system32\drivers\pcmcia.sys
\windows\system32\drivers\1394bus.sys
\windows\system32\drivers\ohci1394.sys
\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\pcmcia.inf
\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\1394.inf
\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\sdbus.inf
\windows\inf\sdbus.inf
\windows\inf\sdbus.PNF

Anyone know how to resolve this problem short of re-installing Vista??
