Hi,

Not sure what section this should go in - Recently built a new PC, although I am having a few problems with it. I can't seem to install 64bit Vista at all, it gets to the second part of the install and comes up with the error "Windows could not configure Windows on this Computer's Hardware". When I install 32bit, it does install. Although I keep having random things crash, like DNS server, Explorer etc..

I have update the Bios for my motherboard, that did not fix it. Someone also suggested that I could not install 64bit on 4GB of ram, I had to take 2GB out and then update, then add the rest. That did not fix it though. I have also taken it apart and put it all back together, making sure all the cables where right and in correctly. Any suggestions or help would be great!

Asus P5E X38 mobo
Powercolor HD3870 XT Extreme 512MB
Geil 4GB (4x1GB) Low Latency DDR2 DC Ram
WD RE2 500GB SATA-II

Does any other OS install and run stably as that would remove any hardware issues although that looks likely atm

Unplug any peripherals except keyboard and mouse. No printer etc. But keep a network connection if you have it built into the motherboard. This is basically so that it can connect to the internet.
Make sure all your Bios setting are Default or Auto but turn off any shadow memory options. Do not even have a USB hub connected to the PC.
Once this is done you can basically eliminate portions of the pc by unplugging them or powering them down.

My guess is that you have a Ram timing mismatch error coming up or a 7E USB driver error.

Geil 4GB (4x1GB) Low Latency DDR2 DC Ram? Is that the same as my ULL cos that runs at 2.1v?

If it needs to go to 2.1v did you do that?

I had similar problems recently with Vista. As above, I eventually tracked it to the ram (thanks to those that helped on here) and found that my motherboard wasn't supplying my ram with it's rated voltage; I upped it via the bios and Vista hasn't crashed since.
