lo,

Kinda given up on trying to install peergaurdian 2 on vista 64bit.

Is there any flaw in my plan to install XP inside virtualbox, install utorrent and then run peergaurdian inside the XP O/S virtualbox?

Will I still be blocking the Ip's or will "it" know I'm running utorrent through virtualbox?

IS there a vista 64bit alternative to peergaurdian 2?

All I'm saying is what is the point in blocking IPs on a BitTorrent network? Unless you live in America there is very very little point. Seriously.

The RIAA and MPAA have no jurisdiction here.

If you really want to... there are plenty of BitTorrent clients that support IP blacklisting. Azureus does. I'm sure Utorrent does as well.

As far as I understand it PeerGuardian stops somebody from connecting to your PC so they can't download from you but it doesn't stop them from harvesting IP addresses, including yours from a torrent client if the client is told by the tracker that you exist as connectable on a torrent.

I've seen plenty of reports of people using this app still getting letters so maybe it's more of a feel good app?

just for reference there is a reason why you're having issues installing peerguardian (2) - taken from the site

Note: PeerGuardian 2 does not support Windows Vista at the moment. This is a top priority, and we hope to have a Vista download soon.
:o

It's been like that for well over a year now, unless theres some beta's I don't know of.

It isn't hiding your IP though. BitTorrent trackers will still advertise your IP address to everyone... it's just that when those people then try to connect PeerGuardian will block them if its on its black list.

It's a waste of time. It's protecting you from nothing and your level of privacy is completely unchanged.
