well i quite like the aero thingy but have you tried it without? its so snapy without aero runing i just switched to useing vista basic. it feels zippy now like my XP used to be. even IE7 seems to load faster aswell, try it see what you think!

I prefere the zip to the aero feature!

i'd love to test this theory but i can't. vista is just too damn ugly with the aero basic or classic theme enabled...

well just try it for an hour, vista basic dosnt look any diffrent really, ok so you cant switch windows via the launch icon, but i never use that anyway!

The bootup is waaaaaay faster than XP and everything seems far more stable and less prone to lockups which I got for some reason with XP (probably a driver related issue). Multitasking is quicker, programs open faster.... I have a stripped to the bone copy of XP which is used for games and I just can't be in it for a normal browisng environment... it just doesn't feel right...

I agree with the stability of vista, iam running vista X64 and have no issue's with it at all, my XP install was just as stable though. it just seems to me when you switch from aero to basic the whole vista experince gets a boost in speed in no matter what you do, even browsing seems to have speeded up! pages seem to load faster aswell, like instantly.

oh it does. it's ******* horrible. :D

i can't even cope with the classic theme. i quite often used to use classic in xp but in vista it's horrible. the explorer windows and control panels are hideous. :D

besides i'm more than happy enough with my pc performance with aero running. :)

I didnt mean windows classic i mean vista basic, looks the same to me as aero but with no desktop windows switch. who use that anyway. and its way faster than aero

well i answered the basic bit in the first sentence. :p

I don't even run Aero basic, I just use the Classic style (or more exactly I think it is called a modified Classic)...old habits die hard (from XP), with Vista 64bit running as Classic it is very "snappy" as vmatt says. :)

opps so you did, but visualy i dont find basic much diffrent from aero, i guess i dont take much notice of any of the fancy effects! i prefere basic as it feels snappy and instant, just like Xp used to feel for me.

Re-tested again & windows classic/basic look ok but vista basic oh my!

This time i did notice windows opening slightly faster but thats likely because others don't have the Windows Zooming Effect & opening the windows any faster would make the effect useless.

Maybe they should have have had an option to disable the zoom if there is not already.
