Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any problems running the X1950 on Vista? Obviously using the latest vista drivers etc.
I have been getting a BSOD on boot everytime but i think that was down to my PSU not having the power, a new one has been ordered and is arriving today.

Thanks

i had an X1950 Pro and had no problems running it under vista, the BSOD could be a bad driver as i had that problem when i originally installed XP drivers in vista. booting into safe mode and removing the drivers fixed the problem

Thanks for the super fast reply!

Ive installed the latest vista drivers from ATI and still got the BSOD, but you are quite correct, i installed the XP Drivers first and got another BSOD with an ati.dll at fault, upgrading to vista drivers solved this one, but gave me another one!
I really think it was due to the PSU as it was only 305w with 18a on the 12v rail (Hense why ive bought another one). Im going to be gutted if it isnt tho as ive spent nearly £100 on the PSU.

The BSOD is very quick to reboot but i managed to see Win32k.sys in there but that was about all i could see.

Would appriciate if other vista users could reply with their experiences?

Thanks

i'm using an x1950pro, agp admittedly, in vista with no probs. never had any issue with ati drivers during the betas or final releases. they've been rock solid for me. :D

edit: have you checked the psu will fit. i heard dell use their own proprietary connections so you can't upgrade with a standard atx supply? :o

No i havent actually, from a quick look (havent got the pc with me cos im at work) it looks standard size. But even if it isnt the same size, i assure you it WILL fit. :p

It really is stupid if dell have done that, but then again its dell i suppose

EDIT - Talk of the devil, its just arrived :D And its flippin heavy!

You guys enjoying your Vistas? Seems like it with all the threads about Vista crashing going on :p

If it wasn't for DX10 I'd have no interest in Vista whatsoever. Linux is making leaps and bounds every week, and apart from games, has everything I'll ever need.

I have nothing against MS personally, but the only thing keeping Windows alive is gaming, Office and the fact that every new PC comes with it pre-installed, hence guaranteeing a large user base. That also means that most businesses have to use it, or spend large amounts on training their staff on a different OS.

Perhaps if they hadn't dropped all the next-gen features they were initially considering we'd have something more worthwhile. As it is, Vista for me really isn't worth the price of admission, certainly at this point in time.

Yes, thank you, I'm enjoying it very much.

Been and done the Linux thing several times but didn't find it offered me anything in particular that Windows didn't, apart from the fact that it was free. If Linux is good for you, then that's fine. Personally, I would rather do things immediately, when I want to, rather than have to surf the 'net to find what I want, then figure out the over-complicated installation/configuration intructions, then find out that those instructions don't actually work for my particular distribution, then start again.......
Perhaps I'm too impatient but then again, my time is valuable and I am prepared to pay for a very user-friendly OS. Unfortunately, I've yet to see a Linux distro that is as user-friendly as Windows, although things are definitely improving on that front.

For the OP, I have aX1950Pro and Vista Home Premium in daily use and have not had a problem. The system is rock-solid on everything I chuck at it. Am using Catalyst version 2007.0202.1923.34565

NOOOO!!! Dont do it!

It doesnt work! You get BSOD! - Hope i got to you intime before you did it
Nope. Upgraded to 7.3 just after last my post.

No problems though - been having a bit of a games marathon most of the weekend and have not had any BSODs or any other issues.

Don't know why you get problems and I don't but it might not just be down to the catalyst drivers.
