A mate of mine who runs a small business ordered some new operating systems and in the package there was a copy of "vista business upgrade disc". He doesn't want to risk loading it onto any of his works systems, so hes given it to me to try out (and probably to keep as well).
Its got on it "not for retail or oem distribution" which says to me that its ok to use, but it doesn't state if its 32 or 64 bit. I'd assume its 32bit, but when loaded is there any way I can check and find out on the pc so I can get the correct drivers?
Any info here would be appreciated.

It usually does say on the disc, but hey ho.

You can actually make a fairly educated guess based on the disc size. 32-bit is around the 2.6Gb Mark, and the 64-bit version is around the 3.7Gb Mark. Quite a difference.

windows key + pause/break key will tell you the version

or windowskey + run (run) then type winver -works with all windows

Well that's just obvious. :p

Must admit, I missed the bit about finding out once it's already installed. I was going for finding out beforehand! :D

Cheers for that guys, its showing as 2.49g in me drive so its gotta be 32bit. I've just loaded it onto a spare pc and it installed fine (in dual boot mode) and the only prob I've had is the "high definition audio" drivers for the karajan audio setup on this dfi mobo is incompatible apparently, though a reinstal and reboot seemed to cure that prob.
One other question is whats this "aero" thing I read about a while back and does "vista business" have it? if not can it be downloaded and installed (which I doubt somehow)
Cheers.

The Volume license disc that you have been given will definetly be 32bit unless otherwise stated on the disc.

BUrnsy
To add, if he has access to the Volume Licencing website, he can download the 64bit ISO from there and burn it. :).

Am I right in thinking the 32 and 64 bit versions don't have separate licences? I mean that if you buy one you are entitled to use either (but obviously only one at a time).

Yes.
Thats why all retail copys of Vista (might be OEM as well, not sure), as labeling saying that theres info inside to obtaining the 64bit version for a shipping fee only. :).
