Vista Home Premium Upgrade from XP MCE

I should receive my copy of Vista from OC on Friday.

I would like to do a clean install, but since I've ordered the retail upgrade of Home Premium I will have to format, install Xp and then upgrade to Vista.

Will I really have to get all of the XP windows updates as stated in the Vista advisor, or can I do a basic XP install and then get straight on with the Vista upgrade?

I have done a clean install of mce2005 and put vista prem straight on top with no problems no need to dl all the updates
