Brand new installation and computer (OS installed for about a week now, on a three week old computer).

I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a 6300 with 2 gigs of DDR800 ram and a SATA2 250GB HDD with 16mb cache. I recently downloaded the Asus ati beta drivers, which weight in at 120mbs zipped, yet extracting is estimated at 12 minutes. It's not even budging actually, stuck at 12 minutes for a good while now. XP normally does bigger sizes in seconds.

Whats the beef?

edit: I moved the zipped file to desktop, and opened it. Copied and pasted the files inside the .zip to desktop and shoved those uncompressed ones into a new folder. Seems to work just fine but I'm annoyed that I have to resort to this kind of thing.

are you running an antivirus?, its probably scanning it when its extracting, also windows defender will be scanning it

go into windows defender and turn off real-time file scanning and enable a weekly or daily scan instead

-disable your AV realtime scanning for the time that its extracting (which av is it?)

How do you change the settings for Windows Defender? I went to options for it, but it only had options for when to do daily checks, or no checks at all.
