Hi all

need help with this little problem. I have just installed Vista Beta 2 which is working great Internet on from the get go, working great with the 7800 GTX so really everything is good.

BUT for the life of me i cannot install my soundcard (X-FI ELITE PRO) i have the Vista drivers from creative but it just wont go keeps telling me there was a problem with the installer windows will close the program and look for a solution but cant find one.

I have to unknown devices in the device manager which could be conflicting i don't no i think there both motherboard related.

they are things that the nForce drivers normally install but there isn't an nforce vista driver set yet i don't think.

Any help would be great as a new OS with no sound is no good

I dont think that the xfi drivers are compatable,, I know the soundblaster live cards wont work I maybe wrong though,, IMO your lucky I cant even get connected to the internet, tried two usb keys and they are unsupported :( how did you connect to the net??
 
No sound for me either - audigy 2 platinum. Tried XP x64 and Vista Beta 1 drivers but no joy.

Been reading some people having success with Audigy 2 ZS by installing XP x64, then Vista, then uninstalling then reinstalling...etc etc...

Just look on creative's forums and you'll see that a LOT of people are in the same boat. Creative's driver support is terrible.
 
Creative will face another fence to try and climb because MS just announced a driver driver quality system for future updates that the user will rate and MS will analyse these ratings giving the drivers a red, green etc colour rating with a score (1-10) so if it gets a 1-3 it's red and deemed highly unstable or has known issues and incompatibilities with many users systems and software across the board.

Times are changing and hardware makers will soon HAVE to support new software tech and give stable, fast drivers else they will face bad reputation.
 
my old sb 4.1 card works fine in vista using my old 2000/xp drivers. :)

edit: not much help to the OP, but more of a reply to other posts regarding creative cards.... :p

32 bit isn't as a big a problem - you can get them working with a lilttle bit of effort. Its x64 that creative dont seem to have any support for. Which sucks.

edit: you added the links in your post after I quoted. They have already been stated as not compatible (x64)

sorry to have taken a while to post back i still have no joy with it I'm running the X64 edition i will just have to wait and see if creative will release there beta 2 driver...

I do think it is a cheek though that i can have bout there premium £££ product the ELITE PRO and have no vista support as i don't think there is any upgrade to this for a while from creative :(

I have dropped them a mail regarding the driver issue so maybe i will get some feedback but I'm not holding my breath...

I must disagree, I'm running the 32-bit Beta 2 right now, listening to MP3s through my X-Fi Fatality. :)

that is great mate im glad your's is working but for anyone with a X64 CPU as in me FX-55 we need the X64 Drivers and as said it seems creative have hardly any support for X64

I think i might just re download the X86 version and use that for the time being until they get some drivers sorted

It's a Beta OS full stop. If you want your sound to work, you're better off installing the X86 version. At this stage, there's going to be no advantage to any better performance. Given limited and buggy driver support for x64, I'd hazard a guess that performance in the x86 version would be better anyway.

The other driver situations tend to be better. Motherboard drivers seem solid, and a lot of on-board sound solutions have what appear to be fully functional drivers at this point. Creative is once again the lone holdout however; they only have a single driver set out that was released for beta 1 and is not close to being complete, so gamers using a high-end audio setup are going to be disappointed for the time being.

Most AMD64 owners are using XP 32. For most users, there is very little performance increase to be had from XP64, but a whole load of compatibility problems.

If you want to test Vista and have most of your hardware working, you'd be advised to go for the x86 Beta Version - unless you're sure x64 has all the drivers you need. Which it obviously doesn't.
