Vista keeps on crashing...

Yes you would need two CD's (Discs), boot from the first disc you created, at the A:\>, eject the disc the first disc and insert the second disc you created and type runme.bat and press enter

When I said I only have one CD-RW I meant I only have one CD-RW and nothing else, but i guess i can take it out and erase it and burn the second one onto it after I've booted with the original surely?

while I was waiting for my dad to finish on the other PC, I thought I'd have another go with my USB stick, and it worked this time and it seen the file. I installed it and it said it passed. Does this mean it has worked?

If so skeeter said about reseting the CMOS jumper, how important is this, because it means I would have to take out my graphics card to get to it?

Thanks,
Yanto.

yep, cheers for all you're help, really I couldn't done it without you, especially you and skeeter the last few days. (not forgetting evveryone else)

anyway once I've reset the jumper, and reconfigured the bios, i'll hopefully get it working again without errors, if not and I still get errors after a clean install I'll let you know.

either way I'll keep you posted :)
Thanks, Yanto.

oh ok, I've done it now, reset the cmos, and reconfigured all the settings in the bios, and I'm still getting loads of errors. I keep getting one saying that DSDEL has stopped working.

and I got this when trying to install the UT3 Demo...

yeah, i did delete the partition and do a proper format when i tryed to reinstall vista, but it still didn't work. I'll have a go at changing the memory timings and volts like you said tomorow, and I'll run memtest again.

cheers, i'll keep you posted.

Yanto.

Also see if u can borrow a optical drive and cable from someone, to rule out dodgy cable/drive

Possibly try diff cable for hdd as well or diff sata port on mb for it.

well I did try all of that before with the old bios, but I it's worth another try i guess with the new bios.

scan want to know the exact errors I'm getting so they can take back and test which components they think are the culprit, so I've compiled a load of screenshots of various errors to email them, and I'll tell them (or my dad will anyway) i'm getting BSODs.

hopefully I'll get this all working in time for crysis :)

Tell em u want it tested fully i.e stick components together and install windows and tell em what to test like er unreal 3 demo install and play on for 5 mins tho then again they might not send u the stuff back then lol. :)

But really, do get them to assemble and test with windows installed on that hdd and get to run what u think is easily error related and get them to download somit and see if its corrupted. etc.

yeah, I'll get them to do what I can, there being pretty pushy though, they'll only test what they think the problems are, last time my dad spoke to them on the phone on tuesday, they were still saying it was probably caused by flakey vista x64 drivers.

Below is what you say you have tested and changed.

1) Different HDD, so it's not the HDD.

2) Updated the bios, probably not the bios.

3) Different ODD, so it's not the ODD.

4) Different drivers, probabley not a driver issue.

5) Tested the memory with Memtes86+, probably not the memory.

As far as i can tell, the time you get the errors is when you install any NVIDIA drivers.

This leads me to think it's either your GFX card, or, your PSU can't produce enough power for the NVIDIA 8800 that you have.

Conclusion: Try a more powerful PSU, if that doesn't work then the culprit is probably the graphics card, even bad memory on the graphics card can cause this sort of problem.

It may be your motherboard, but i doubt it as the issue seems to appear when you install the graphics card drivers, i could be wrong though.

that's all correct except I still have all the same errors without the gfx card drivers, except the ones where they involve installing games, because I didn't try to install games without any gfx card drivers.

and I havn't tryed a different hdd, only a different cable, and a different odd. I don't have any spare hdds.
