Vista Laptop Can't Connect to XP Network After Router Swapped

Hi All

I had a Toshiba Laptop running Windows Vista Business, which could connect via a Windows network to a computer running XP Home. However, I then had to swap the router on the network for technical issues related to our broadband provider. The router was swapped from a Netgear DG834PN to a Thomson Speedtouch 585v6. Whilst the Vista Laptop can still connect to the internet, and it can see the main XP Home computer on the network, it can't connect to the XP Home computer and open any of the shared files on it.

Can anyone make any suggestions as to what I can try to get this working? I am wondering if it is somehow related to IPv6?

Many thanks for any suggestions or links.

Thanks

Some routers block NetBIOS (File and Printer sharing) between wireless clients, in an attempt to improve security. I know a 3com model I had did this, and I couldn't find a way to disable it either.

Try plugging one of the machines into the wired interface on the router to see if that makes a difference.

OK, so if I plug the Vista laptop into the router, it can then open files on the XP Home machine, but it can't do this when it's on the network wirelessly.

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what to look at? Router is a Thomson Speedtouch 585.

Any suggestions or links much appreciated.

Thanks all
