that'll be the evil that is cleartype. turn it off by going to personalisation>windows colour and appearance>open classic appearance.... >effects button and change the first option to standard. :)

I read some guide or other which recommended cleartype for lcd monitors. I always enable it now. I just tried it turned off and to my eye it looks crap tbh. I guess I am used to the CRT look. The letters look kind of normal to me whereas with it off they look kind of like an old computer font ( the best way I can describe ).

Correct, ClearType technology is designed for LCD monitors, but it works by anti-aliasing the text displayed on the monitor. Most people would never notice this but some do, just like some people still swear by CRT monitors for gaming.

I'm not one of those people, ClearType is turned on on all my systems.

Anyone know how to stop this in Vista? Nasty red bleed in some of the text. It makes no differance if cleartype is on/off. Its at the native res, but thats a screengrab so its not the monitor anyway.

i don't have vista but i will guess that somewhere in the options of whatever program you are using will be an 'antialiasing' option - turn it off.

i have had similar things happen in xp.
