Vista VIdeos "Fuzzy"

I have a ATi 1950XTX 512Mb version, using 7-4_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_44981 drivers

i rescently upgraded to vista and the video seems fuzzy to me as if the edges on everything have been "smoothed" over
HD version of chronicals of riddick

Any help would be much appreciated

What codec is it using, what format is the hd movie? I tend to find the wmv codec is crap like that. What decoder are you using?

i am using powerdvd with the vista patch, it previously worked in HD using the same version

I think it's due to you not having full HD compliant hardware. If you don't have the full deal then the video plays at a lower bit rate (thus worse image quality). I believe this was implimented with the latest version of PowerDVD. I could be wrong however.

If he's connecting by analogue then it should play at the full rate, if he's connecting by dvi-d without hdcp then it shouldn't work at all. There should be no in between according to the hdcp specification.

Without knowing what format the video is in though it's hard to offer any advice.

Tested using a HDDVDRip at 720p coded in WMV.5.1.x360
